CoSTUME NATIONAL is a highly recognizable luxury goods brand with an innovative style, established in mid 80’s by Ennio Capasa, Italian designer. Combining Japanese purism with a more streetwear-influenced silhouette, the first CoSTUME NATIONAL women’s ready-to-wear collection appeared in 1987, along with a shoe collection. However, reaction to Capasa’s sensual, minimalist vision was muted in Milan (where the fashion federation had refused requests by Japanese designers to show in the early ’80s), so in 1991 they decided to follow Yamamoto and Rei Kawakubo to Paris. Mixing the influences of the east and the west, Ennio Capasa’s designs are innovative and challenged the status quo of the fashion design industry. Contemporary styles balanced by sartorial elegance with emphasis on lifestyle defined Ennio Capasa’s creations.
The head office is currently in Milan in Via Fusetti; actual manufacturing for the Costume National and Costume National Homme brands takes place in the organization’s own production plants in Thiene near Vicenza in Italy.
Footwear and shoe production is carried out in the Fosso plant in Venice Province while eyewear, glasses, perfumes, the second line C’N’C’ Costume National and leather and hide items are produced under licence.
Womenswear collections are presented at the Paris fashion parades and men’s in Milan during the annual fashion week in Spring.
