Salone Satellite 08: University of Belgrade’s sustainable designs

After successful premiere at Talent Zone - Copenhagen International Furniture Fair last year, students from University of Belgrade’s Furniture and Interior Design department - Wood Processing & Furniture Design, have shown their sustainable designs at Milan Salone Satellite 2008.
The Exhibition featured eighteen multi functional furniture prototypes with innovative constructions / folding principles, as well as projects from sustainable design workshop - REST WOOD DESIGN - University project by Assistant professor MA Jelena Matić, organized annually at the Center for Tools and Machinery, at University’s Faculty of Forestry. The Workshop operates as an extracurricular activity promoting student sustainable creativity through innovative use of industrial wood waste in furniture and interior design concepts, which often results in successfully realized prototypes, first time experiences, valuable knowledge, and rewards to young designers.
This is a valuable experience to young designers, mostly involved in theoretical subjects or projects, to make their first prototype, promote it, get feedback, or even sign the first contract. Says Milica Jovic, fourth year student, rewarded with the Best Work from Workshop Award at Belgrade Design Week’s STUDENT DESIGN SCENE exhibition last year, whose work is already in sale.
This year’s Workshop resulted with 12 successful prototypes, exhibited, along with other student work, at Milan Design Week – Salone Satellite (stand C/49). Sixteen best students took participation in this exhibition: Nikola Petkovic, Emir Beciragic, Ana Divac, Nemanja Aleksic, Marko Vasiljevic, Marija Bjelakovic, Aleksandar Stamenovic, Aleksandar Blagojevic, Milica Nesovanovic, Milica Jovic, Uros Vitas, Adrian Banc, Zeljko Pantic, Marija Manojlovic, Ivana Milovanovic, and Lucija Konjevic.
