Really coool!

Pretty funny and nice design but some of the ‘Brit-isms’ aren’t well enough researched. ‘More affordable than all those other wankers’ does not make sense!

I agree to katie, plus I don’t think that VAG Rounded fits well into the whole design.

Being British I’d say the wankers one makes perfect sense; referring to other businesses of course.

I think the weakest element is the copy.

Why do the Irish hate the British? Ever owned an MG? Needs questions marks. Also ‘hate’ is a strong word; ‘envy’ would have been more appropriate.

The ‘Wankers’ poster attempts to employ an obviously British word not commonly used in the US, but in the wrong context. ‘Wankers’ is usually reserved for human beings, not entities such as rival companies.

The ‘God save the Queen’ one - are they now rivals to God Almighty himself? Quite impressive, but again completely off focus.

Not everything British should sound funny - is this the right tone for posters clearly aimed at British motoring enthusiasts? Does it actually reflect what they think about the British?

The visual design is nice, but wasted because of the desperately poor copy. Better luck next time (chaps).

(Given the target audience it’s clear the copywriter simply needs a sound thrashing British-style to teach him the error of his ways. Can’t let the buggers slack off you understand.)

I love the look, copy is off slightly. I have no problem with the typeface. I’m a retired Creative Director. Currently free-lance…Architectural Renderings. I do own a 1969 MGB so I don’t hate the British, I “envy” them. Overall, I think it’s a great campaign .

Cleisthenes, do you just go places and pretend you know what you’re talking about?

Mark Smith on August 5th, 2008 @2:48 pm

I’m British and I think that the wankers one works perfectly.

Also, the Irish one is clearly a joke about the political history between the two countries – it has to be hate – envy wouldn’t work at all.

The strongest element is the copy. Cleisthenes is a complete bowler.

I don’t get the English/Irish one… That car is an MG which I think is a German car, so it makes no sense.

Mark Smith on October 6th, 2008 @12:28 pm

before you chime in maybe you should double check your facts dumbass

This is funny and unique! I like the vintage feeling too!

Why this ad works SO well is that it went right to those who still own British cars. If you still own a classic Pommy car, you probably have commiserated with other owners, and these ads all make fun of the problems we Brit car owners have bitched about for years - bad transmissions, expensive repair bills, designs that are more fashionable than functional, Lucas electrical systems - THOUSANDS of jokes and dozens of websites about the failings of British automotive electrical systems - always funny because they’re ALWAYS TRUE!
No, these ads went right to the heart of the issue for folks like me. The problem is, I LIVE in Milwaukee - WHERE WERE THEY PUBLISHED?
That’s where they missed the mark, because I didn’t see them until today!
