Very scary! When i die i think i will see these things. There will be nothing in there that i ever read in a newspaper. or saw on tv. I’m 34 and i already have numerous things that stick in my mind due to their intense emotional value.
Which leads me to believe that feelings are far more powerful than we know. And our feelings can not be fooled by marketing. i’ve seen heaps of coke and mcdonalds advertisements that try, but they just don’t stick!!!

I’ve love to see a presentation of his. I live in Portugal, but wasn’t able to make it to the fest.

Nice idea, but poorly done. There are like 7-9 scenes spanning a lifetime? What’s with the blinking, or processing gap between scenes? I don’t think this should be praised but rather, encouraged to be completed. As far as I’m concerned what played here was nothing more than what the artist should have as a core concept so he doesn’t forget what he wants to do with it. If this is really the final product/finished piece; I find it lacking.
On a positive note, the picture quality seemed quite clear & vivid.Perhaps I am so disappointed based on what could have been accomplished here. It’s not like Mr.Milk did this on a $10 budget, by himself, in a 3rd world country.
Try harder Chris.

love the originality of this short film

@ Thomas
I’m no expert but I think the “blinking, or processing gap between scenes”
are supposed to represent the last few heartbeats of the daydreamers life.
Like i said not an expert.
@ Chris Milk
for what it’s worth I think it’s great.

I’m so glad that being punched out by Pauly Shore isn’t one of MY memories :P

Bubba on July 3rd, 2009 @12:40 am

It bothers me that the dialogue the artist decided to put in was an expletive, when the whole rest of the story was told through imagery. If the punch was going the other way, ie. the view was as if you were punching someone, what would the words have been?

@ Thomas: I agree that I am left with an incomplete feeling after watching this. Maybe that is the artist’s intent?

I wish there were at least some scenes in this that weren’t clichee. Maybe a “feat” that is less mainstream - mountaintop view, the front of a kayak in a rapid. Maybe getting into a “forbidden” area.

Also this is very plainly a man’s life. How many of these scenes would change from a woman’s viewpoint?

Awesome. I’m touched.

Justin Opposer on July 23rd, 2009 @5:11 pm

@ Justin: I’m surprised you watched it for the whole 1:36, even though only half of it was actually the film, the rest was all credits, and I’m impressed that even though you obviously didn’t like the film, that you persevered into watching the whole thing.

Very cool. Nicely done.

BrianMac on July 29th, 2009 @12:27 am

Great idea. Mediocre execution. The images look too much like stock footage used in ads. Excellent portfolio for someone looking to work in commercial video.

Well done. I really enjoyed it.

I was touched and troubled, in a good way, by this film. The first-person perspective with the use of the same wide lens, and even the choice of moments, despite their predictability, everything is sharp and smart.

I understand the concept of the last heartbeats, but still I’m frustrated. It could have contained more life snapshots. Maybe it’s just denial…

JW on August 31st, 2009 @5:01 am

Compare to Flash Gordon (1980) scene where Dr Hans Zarkov is placed in the deneuralizer (or whatever).

Ted on August 31st, 2009 @7:22 am

@JW Dude, nice Flash Gordon reference. Kinda makes me want to go watch that, actually…

Greg on September 4th, 2009 @10:05 am

Guys, stop being stupid… this was made for the 42 seconds festival! It can’t last more than 42 seconds, so stop saying “it’s too short, I was expecting to see more snapshots, blablabla”.
Second of all, how do you remember stuff in your head? Does it look like full HD video with THX sounds? Or does it look like old footage, with blurry pictures? Come on… You totally missed the point

This film is great, i love it, make me shivering… Nice work. It brings a lot of emotions…

Such nice touches and attention to detail. If this was an advert…it would be one of the most acclaimed ever. A ‘run to the TV everytime it’s on’ job.

I liked the baseball thing best. He drops it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And the policeman. The blood. The old man on the beach on his own at the end…WOW.

Eleven out of ten!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This video is a reminder of what really matters in life . . . helping us recognize the things that don’t matter.
