Mad man, bad man, sad man. Man of his times?

Portrait of Don Draper By Daniel Mackie.dondraper Mad man, bad man, sad man. Man of his times?
Well, all the girls want him. All the men want to be him. Steve McQueen, right? No. Don Draper, fictional character from TV Hit, Mad Man. He is a cocktail of contradiction. He is a over sexed, hard drinking, chain smoking womanizing sonofabitch!

The sixties, the decade in which Madmen is set is now a long time ago. It is striking to see how far society has come. Don Draper is a Man of his time. His Character is used beautifully to illustrate the yawning gap between the gloss of the American dream and the shifting sands that is reality.

The sixties is presented as an era of uncomfortable change. Men are Struggling to come to terms with the fall out from the second world war. Women are feeling their way to more independent lives and sexual expression. But this is still a chauvinist world. Men are Men and women should know their place, Right? Well “Times they are achangin”

As the times change Don Draper loses his wife, his main client (lucky strike cigarettes) and his touch with women.
Very witty, surprisingly dark and very astute.
