Wørk in Progress: Video portrait about the artist Stefan Strumbel

Stefan Strumbel found his artistic calling early, as a sprayer and street artist on the streets of Offenburg. His intense involvement with the design elements of urban art would have a more profound effect on his work, than he perhaps first realized. Today the native of the Black Forest has become something rather hard to categorize.
He is most certainly an artist, but also a provocateur and one of the few masters who still know how to break taboos in an era where taboos are continually dissolving. Stefan Strumbel affects, provokes and contrasts, and does so on many different levels. His intense thematic treatment of the glaring rift between conventionally charged traditional imagery and avant-garde pop art elements has become a portrait of the search for identity. The content of Strumbel’s artistic rifts reveals antiquated concepts of Heimat which have become obsolete. Conversely, many of his pieces have found a home, not only on the walls of galleries all around the world, but also on the living room walls of such notable Strumbel followers as Hubert Burda and Karl Lagerfeld.
