Visually arresting and packing a funny punch, the work of Florence-based Simone Massoni, an Italian artist and founder of the SketchThisOut label, is, by his own account “always topical, always fresh.” If, for instance, you take a closer look at the artwork he’s spliced together in the “12 Famous Fairy Tales in Pieces” calendar project, it won’t look at all like an accurate retelling of the night-time stories you’d fall asleep to as a child. And that’s a good thing – in this day and age, when Disney fare consists of Wizards of Waverly Place and your average 7-year old can out-text his parents, a tech sting in the tail is just what the old fairy tale needs to stay in the game.
