Stefan Sagmeister is one of those admirable people, made famous because of two basic things – he knew very early in life what he wanted to do with it, and was talented enough to be one of the best at it. His educational progress would, roughly, go something like this: at the age of 15, decided to be a designer (and started designing); studied at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna; got a Fulbright scholarship – used it to study at the Pratt Institute in New York; worked with others in design studios in Hong Kong and New York; opened his own studio. No time wasted.
