5 hours to go. The TYPOGRAPHIC WALL CALENDAR 2012 made in Germany of 2.012 used keyboard keys – a huge success at Kickstarter

“Harald Geisler’s stunning reinterpretation of a calendar is a masterful example of how a designer can completely flip a genre signifier on its head. Geisler re-imagines calendars in order to change the way we visualize time, and in turn, redefines what it means to save the date.”

Frankfurt am Main, Germany, 6th November, 2011– German typographer Harald Geisler releases the third Typographic Wall Calendar made of 2.012 used keyboard keys with a successful Kickstarter(NYC) campaign. More than 400 backers already pledged over 17.000 US-Dollar to finance the production and order one of Harald’s meticulously created prints. The amount pledged at the moment is more than 950% of the original funding goal. The project on Kickstarter ends on Sunday Nov 6th.

What is the project about: The 2012 Typographic Wall Calendar is a huge print (27 x 40 inch) created from 2012 used keyboard keys. The Keyboard keys are arranged to read out every day of the year, as if a person would type it.
The Gregorian calendar is timing the western culture since 1582. By writing out all days of the year the visual structure of the calendar is deconstructed and reconstructed in a plain text. By showing a keyboard key the text isn’t reconstructed immediately. The key lays one moment before the text literally appears. A key wants to be pressed. In this manner the picture holds on to the moment before the creation or becoming of a text. In this withholding the picture points to the action of writing.

Harald Geisler is working on the project since 2009. The resulting artwork is printed every year and reproduces the work in original size. Starting at $35, Geisler ships the prints to any location world wide shipping included.

Where do Backers come from? Backers for this project come from all over the World including US, Singapore, Italy, Canada, Thailand, South Korea, Sweden, Thailand, Israel, Denmark, Russia, Australia, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Brasil and Belgium…
All Backers can be seen on the Kickstarter site. After the Kickstarter Campaign the prints will be sold through Geisler’s website: haraldgeisler.com/order-prints

“Save the date
Harald Geisler’s typographic calendar is made up of a mind-boggling 2,012 used computer keys that have been manually arranged to spell out every single day in the year 2012, with the whole shebang clocking in at 27×40 inches. It may take a little practice to decipher, but it’s a whole lot more fun. ”
