Slat House is a minimalist house designed by England-based designers Carl Turner Architects. The home is a renovation on a 1930′s semi-detached house to provide an extra bedroom, bathroom, and garage. The clients wanted the extension to open up to the nearby wooded area. They also preferred a flexible interior space for an ever-changing growing family.
The architects described their renovation as a lightweight box. Timber cladding was not only used for the reduction of the load of the building, but for aesthetic purposes as well in order to blend into the surrounding environment. Ultimately, the extension has a very open and modular design. Floor-to-ceiling windows and skylights illuminate the upper level space, and the timber cladding gives the building a very warm and natural appeal.
