Brazilians let the dogs out in Rio de Janeiro for the annual precursor to the Carnival parade where pet owners gussy up their pooches in costumes and festive garb. Goddess Mazu statue built in Tianjin
A 14-story statue of Mazu, the Chinese goddess of the sea, which almost rivals the Statue of Liberty in height (42.3 meters for Mazu vs. 46 meters for Miss Liberty) stands along the seaside in Tianjin, China, on February 10, 2012. Builders completed construction of the statue in December 2012 and it will be a central attraction of the new Mazu Culture Economic and Trade Park being built in the Binhai Tourism Zone in Tianjin. via Hungeree

The Tomato War in Quillon, Chile
Thousands of tomatoes became a mash of sauce and seeds in Quillón located in the VIII Region of Chile, on February 11, 2012, when the second annual ‘Tomato War’ broke out. Over 3,000 participants took part in the action where 30 tons of bruised tomatoes were thrown, lobbed, hurled, and smashed against playful combatants and churned into soupy red pools of chunky flesh and glistening skins. Monarch butterflies overwintering in Oyamel Forest
Every year in November and December, thousands of Monarch butterflies flock to the Oyamel Forest in central Mexico to spend the winter in a state of hibernation. Converse teams up with Nintendo again next month to release another Mario-themed Converse sneaker in black or white leather. Amateur photographer Samuel Aranda’s snapshot of a Yemeni woman cloaked in black and cradling a wounded relative after a protest in Yemen has won the 55th annual World Press Photo Contest. Aranda’s winning photo was taken on October 15, 2011 and it beat out over 100,000 other photos from 5,247 photographers around the globe. The man who installed a stove in his Volvo
Pascal Prokop isn’t your average motorist in search of the latest and greatest in automotive technology. No, he’s the kind of driver who installs an old school wood-burning stove in the passenger seat of his Volvo in order to stay warm during the cruel winters of Switzerland. Empire State Building Run-Up 2012

Baby marmoset to become ambassador
A six-week-old baby marmoset who was abandoned by its mother has been adopted by animal handlers at Wild Animal Encounters located in Western Sydney.
