The Method Case is really proud to present Extrusion Bowls by apparatu. A video created by the collaboration between Apparatu and The Method Case. The project starts from one of the pieces which resulted from the workshop “Fragil” held by Apparatu in summer 2010. Guim Espelt i Estopà one of the participants, designed the pieces after discovering an apparently impossible texture. The process began with the deformation of a hollow cylinder of extrusioned clay, after which we focussed on the cracks that were generated. By trial and error we hit on the formula in the wheel: for the creation of a bowl, the only way to conserve the cracks is to place the cylinder in the wheel and push from the centre towards the periphery. By expanding the grey mass while spinning, unique and random textures appear on the surface leaving the coloured interior as the only controlled element.

Black Hole is a series of images, which shows paint modeled by the centripetal force. The setup is very simple: Various shades of acrylic paint are dripped onto a metallic rod, which is connected to a drill. When switched on, the paint starts to move away from the rod, creating these amazing looking structures.Continue reading at The Method Case

The Method Case creates a series of posters in order to enhance design process and responsible consumption. TMC is a website specialized in the world of design, architecture and visual communication that started early 2011. Tea Set by Tomás Alonso

tea set by tomas alonso themethodcase 22 650x975 Tea Set by Tomás Alonso

People who know Tomás Alonso’s work, often executed in simple wood, they strike one as light, three-dimensional sketches, will hardly associate him with silver. So their (Wiener Silber Manufactur) collaboration for Vienna Design Week 2011 was all the more fascinating. Alonso approached it with the “functionality of the pattern” in mind: a plain tea service with fluted pattern on the underside of the set and the upper side of the tray, both interlocked with each other.

Engineering Temporality by Studio Markunpoika

engineering temporality by markunpoika themethodcase 13 Engineering Temporality by Studio Markunpoika

The topic for his thesis spawned out from a personal agony within his family: his grandmothers declining health. Once a strong and bold woman, now only a fainting image of her past. Her Alzheimer’s disease is unravelling the fabric of her life, knot by knot, and vaporising the very core of her personality and life, her memories, and turning her into a shell of a human being. He felt the urge to connect design to the human emotional sphere and to values that reflect how we are as human beings, by trying to create a bridge between the metaphysical and the material world using design as medium of expression…
