Design Miami 2013 Highlights

The 2013 edition of Design Miami has had its biggest gallery programme to date. My Design Week tells you all about the galleries and happenings that ended yesterday.

Design Miami counted with 31 galleries in the main exhibition and six galleries presenting new works by single designers as part of the Design On/Site programme. There were also all sorts of satellite happenings to divert you day and night, in the Design District and South Beach, Miami,  Usa, specifically in Meridian Avenue & 19th Street, Adjacent to the Miami Beach Convention Centre, Miami Beach.

Lighting Design: Minotti with a Delightfull twist

Minotti just opened a new store in Madison Avenue. The Midtown Manhattan is now even more attractive. My Design Week, tells you all about Minotti’s new store and new partner, Delightfull Unique Lamps.

The project by Dordoni Architetti englobes three large windows wich overlook the street. In the inside, the interior has been divided into several levels; five suspended platforms made of natural black steel arranged from the lower top, reaching a maximum height of 6 metres, allowing the visitor to explore and discover Minotti‘s large collection of products.

Ecletic Food Design by Ron Blaauw

Ron Blaauw is the chef behind the Ron Gastrobar in Amsterdam. He was awarded with its first Michelin Star in 2004, and three more since. Start watering your months, My Design Week will show you Blaauw’s amazing food design.

Located in Sophialaan 55 hs, 105 BP Amsterdam, Ron Gastrobar focuses on an eclectic menu that involves elements of molecular gastronomy to add surprising tastes and textures to their dishes.

Miami Lifestyle City Guide

Inside this copper-color cement building—formerly a woodworker’s shop— Venezuelan chef Gabriela Machado stages a communal dinner party on Thursday and Saturday evenings, dubbed “Atelier Nights.” Cell phones and cameras are banned during the cocktail reception and seven-course dinner—whose menu changes every two months—in an effort to encourage guests to converse and enjoy the moment.

From 5th to 8th December, the Art Basel Miami Beach is back! My Design Week gives you a preview of this Modern and Contemporary art show.

This year you can count with multiple sectors, each of which has its own selection process and committee of experts, who review applicants and make the final selection of show participants. The seven show sectors offer a diverse collection of artworks, including pieces by established artists and newly emerging artists, curated projects, site-specific experiential work, and video.

German Chefs’ creative cooking has embraced ingredients from far outside Germany’s borders, and a clientele willing to pay for it.

Sven Elverfeld

Sven Elverfeld is the Chef for Acqua, the Restaurant at the Ritz-Carlton in Wolfsburg. He “has continually refined his modern European cuisine of the highest standards in our signature restaurant AQUA. He often discovers an inspirational source of ideas in his Wolfsburg surroundings — the Autostadt, a place filled with contrasts. Visual esthetics as well as a never-varying high quality characterize his creations and have earned him his most recent honors.”

Winter Wonderland by Alexey Kljatov

Russian photographer Alexey Kljatov presented the world with the most amazing macro snowflakes photos. My Design Week shows you the technique behind these great shots, in his own words.

The raw material – he used a $50 lens taped to his camera, a Canon A650.

Technique: use the ‘camera-structure’ above to capture the snowflackes in his house’s balcony, mostly on glass surfaces, “lighted by LED flashlight from opposite side of glass, and sometimes in natural light, using dark woolen fabrics as background.”

World’s Most Exclusive Design Restaurants

Food lover? My Design Week is too. So, we present you the world’s most exclusive design restaurants in 2013 because dining in the best and most exclusive restaurants in the world will certainly be a one of a kind experience.

El Celler de Can Roca – Girona, Spain

Owned by the Roca Brothers, this restaurant serves traditional Catalan cuisine with extremely creative twists. The restaurant has a large wine cellar with 60,000 bottles and dishes served include caramelised olives served on a bonsai tree.

Head chef Joan helped pioneer the widespread use of sous-vide cooking in the ’90s via his Roner machine, and is a technical maestro. Josep is the head sommelier and the rule-breaking pastry chef whose creations blow the imagination.

‘Melbournians’ love the outdoor, cultural events, eating out, going to galleries, spending time at the beach and playing any kind of sport. That is why Melbourne was named the most livable city of 2012 in the Economist Intelligence Unit’s global livability report.

Federation Square

One of Melbourne’s most visited places, the Federation Square is home to a large open-air space and several cultural buildings: The Atrium, Edge Theater and Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI).

The building on the image is highly controversial (one website called it one of the ugliest in the world). However, became Melbourne’s unofficial city square in 2002, after an international competition was held to create a cultural building that could also house an open amphitheater for up to 15,000 people.

2014 Design Weeks and Trend Shows you cannot miss

2014 is going to be another big year in terms of design. My Design Week is eagerly waiting for some of the best design events in the world – the kind that set up new trends. Thus, we give you the Design Weeks and Trends Shows you cannot – for anything – miss in 2014.

IMM Cologne

It is the first Design Show in the year, happening from 13th to 19th January in Cologne, Germany. Their slogan is ”The pulse of the furnishing world! Good products, good ideas, good business.” In fact, this fair presents the trends that will shape the furniture and interior design sector.
