Stop motion form and colour, using light painting techniques.
Lighting: Kim Pimmel
Sound: Tron Legacy trailers
I’ve been interested in taking my Light Study photo series and evolving them into motion pieces. I shot a lot of footage for a VJ gig for FITC San Francisco. So I edited together those stop motion sequences, mashed up some audio from the Tron Legacy trailers, and out came Light Drive.
The video is stop motion, so every frame is an individually shot photograph. Each photograph is a long exposure photo, with exposures reaching up to 20 seconds in some cases……
Remember Andrew Myers? He’s the talented, Laguna Beach, California-based artist who uses thousands of screws to create 3D portraits. It’s hard to believe but it’s been over a year since we checked in on him. He finished a new piece in December for a client that consisted of 9,800 screws and is currently working on one of his friend and filmmaker Ben Pitts which should be completed soon. These progress photos make us pretty excited to see the final piece! In fact, I love the above photo in and of itself. With a fan on one side, it gives the illusion that pieces of the subject are blowing away…..
This will be either the most overhyped piece of camera technology in modern times or the start of something revolutionary. (I’m hoping it’s the later.) About four months ago, Lytro announced that they were building a consumer digital camera that claimed it will be the biggest technological jump since we started talking megapixels over 20 years ago.
The pocket-sized camera provides new capabilities never seen before, allowing you to focus on a picture after it’s taken. How? A light field camera captures light all throughout the scene in front of the lens, as opposed to the cameras consumers are used to, which bring a particular part into focus.
As Steve Lohr from The New York Times says, “For a photographer, whether amateur or professional,
the Lytro technology means that the headaches of focusing a shot go away…….

3-dimensional soft toy that does everything a greetings card should… Made from paper-like plastic it resists water and rips and other general abuse but still remains crisp and easy to write on with a biro. Stuffed and stitched like a real teddy bear it’s the perfect way to record how you feel with messages and doodles, then send through the post (by fixing a stamp/address somewhere) to arrive at anything from the birth of a baby to the retirement of a colleague….

This beautiful large-scale Snow Drawing piece was created by San Francisco-based artist Sonja Hinrichsen with the help of generous assistance of 5 volunteers on Rabbit Ears Pass, Colorado. Her work is like a snow version of Amazing Sand Drawings on California Beaches by Jim Denevan we’ve featured last year.
It’s amazing how many hours were spent creating something so big yet impermanent as these drawings. “I’m not so into making art that lasts,” Hinrichsen told Steamboat Today. “The world is saturated with manmade projects. I don’t think I need to add more things to the planet.”……
Katie Eary is the London-based designer who will soon need no introduction – her aggressive but noble menswear is an unstoppable, inevitable hurricane ripping its own path through fashion. If difficult social and economic times such as this bring watershed moments, rare changes of perspective that grab fashion by the lapel and drag it into the future, then Katie is the young talent that really is the burgeoning voice, and attitude, of our generation….
