Horror Illustrations – The Dark Side of Digital Art

The fact is that our life is not only about joy, fun, and happiness; it provides enough space for other emotions as well, such as fear, anger, disgust, and sadness. However, this statement just reflects the way this world was built – the world, which combines black and white, good and evil, happiness and misfortune. However, the word “to combine” does not always mean “to merge”, and the distinct line between all those opposites always exists. Art is nothing but the reflection of the life itself. Hence, it cannot be only about beautiful people, pastel colors, and peaceful landscapes. Though it is necessary to admit here that for many years art remained pretty conservative, focusing mainly on the beauty and harmony. Thus, whether we like it or not, art needs to start illustrating both sides of life, because otherwise the portrait produced will be simply incomplete.

Bringing Literature to the Masses – History of American Front Cover Art

One reason images are so powerful is that one doesn’t necessarily need an education to decipher them. In an instant, a person can roughly work out what a picture is trying to communicate. It was this principle that lead American publishers to use the illustrated front cover to sell and bring literature to the masses.

Landscape photography by Petr Frolich

I have always been interested in traditional family and party photography. Since I started to travel around the world and was impressed with awesome landscapes and urban photographs, I developed a passion for creative photography. In late 2006 I bought my first DSLR Canon camera and shot my world digitaly. I love the colour but I find myself staring at black and white photographs more and more, thinking ‘thats what I want to do!’ My madness for B & W photography lead me to use classic film for my pictures, and through 35mm film camera I found a lovely Hasselblad 500 cm in my hands. These days I am using purely this medium format camera, mostly loaded with Ilford Delta 100. Photographing landscapes and water scapes at dawn and dask using long exposure and pure simple composition is my point of view. Thank you and I hope that you enjoy my work.

Pixelated Free Fonts

Pixel is the basic elementary component of any digital image. Modern displaying technologies have made a great progress to make separate pixels invisible for users; however, designers often choose intentionally to display pixels in large size, thus creating a particular style of a picture or text, when we speak about computer fonts in particular. Actually, pixelated fonts, such as those free fonts showcased below, represent the previous era of digital typography, when the resolution of the displays was low, making the text look angular, awkward, lugged, or just pixelated as the generally accepted term. Today free pixelated fonts with their distinct dots and squares are used in multiple types of design, where it is desirable to underline the machine-origin of the message or create the specific atmosphere of computer fonts, popular a few decades ago.
