Interview with Victoria Louise Geaney, one of the selected authors by the first creative call of What’s More Alive Than You™ whose shoes collection H.R.H. is right now realized.
What’s More Alive Than You™ presents in these days its first PERMANENT COLLECTION showing as preview a series of shoes and bags designed thanks to the creativity of 15 young students and professionals unknown to the general public, but with great skills and talent. Among them not only fashion designers but also architects and product designers, who have accepted the multidisciplinary challenge offered by What’s More Alive Than You™ by creating objects really special, suitable for those who want to stand out, with the spirit of this new Italian brand which offers wearable objects closer to the world of art and design than to the rules of traditional fashion.
This new brand and its ambitious project are recognized by the press about fashion, design and art of 72 countries. Several Universities around the world already involved their students in our creative calls launched several times per year for the design of the collections; among them 15 are already actively working together in partnership. There are already 45 people selected as authors of the artworks, some of them presented in the first PERMANENT COLLECTION and they come from 19 different countries. A project that started just over a year ago but is creating so much interest and curiosity in thousands of people who every day visit the institutional website.
We therefore wanted to ask one of the authors of the Selection ONE, whose artworks are right now part of the first PERMANENT COLLECTION, what she thinks and which idea she has about this new brand, thanks to her experience in this project.
The young fashion designer is Victoria Louise Geaney, born in London 23 years ago; she is the author of a beautiful collection of women’s shoes with floral theme, inspired by nature and that has the names of some of the Queens of England.

The project for the brand What’s More Alive Than You® was founded in 2004 by an idea of Mario Innocente, advertising and marketing consultant now the manager of Wmaty srl, which owns the brand.
The idea to involve people from all over the world in the design of fashion collections of shoes, bags and contemporary jewellery, is finding the interest of thousands of young students, designers and fashion designers who respond enthusiastically to the creative calls regularly launched all over the world by the Italian company.
After the success of the second creative call, which have selected 23 people and 2 professional studios from 12 countries, we do have some questions to the inventor of the project to better find out how the new fashion-art brand What’s More Alive Than You® wants to place itself into the market.

Thessaloniki – Greece, December 31, 1984
As a girl of five, routine fights with my mother were limited to: “These socks don’t match this outfit”. Since then I’ve been considering life as a role playing game. In order to play this game you have to choose a role and define it by first choosing your image. For me, every day is a challenge for a new identity, starting from what is known as my “look” (read also: personal image, appearance, apparel, kinesiology, attitude).

I was born in a normal hospital, I grew up in a normal city, in a normal house, with a normal family. One normal day I learned about numbers which I undoubtedly prefer over letters! I started playing with numbers, and suddenly they became distances and proportions. And I still remember the day that the big god called ” FORM ” came and connected the numbers! From that moment, nothing was normal anymore: I think I’m addicted to design!
THIS IS OUR ARTWORK – N BAG
This bag is a project based on counting: 8 pockets, 3 holes,1 bag and N ways to wear it! Due to the fact that, each time, the distance of the body part that it is used is different, there are N ways to wear it; no longer just around your arm or in your hand, but, and why not, also around your neck. An elegant way to combine a lady’s must-have with any clothes, any style, any time of day.
N-Bag is produced on summer and winter version. In the summer version was used a fabric of pure natural linen with two textures, coupled with a thin layer of paper which forms the support once worn. A series of 8 pockets of varying sizes in pure orange cotton featuring all products WHAT’S MORE ALIVE THAN YOU®. In the winter version the exterior of the bag is made of cashmere always coupled with a layer of paper that gives the artwork a wrinkle form.
PREMRUDEE LEEHACHAROENKUL

Thai student with a product design background but with the passion for accessories.
In my opinion, shoes are pieces of art – they are not only functional, but also inspiring. My design is focused on creativity, experimentation and innovation. I’m fond of mixing different materials and I mixed and matched different kinds of materials and explored my ideas for shoes and bags.
THIS IS MY ARTWORK – GYOZA TWIST SHOES
Gyoza Twist has a particular shape in plan as in profile. The image is of a 1800s shoe, characterized by lightness, in contrast with the visual impact. Made entirely of natural tanned calfskin, thin and very soft, coupled with a leather lining inside always in the distinctive orange color. A wrapping shape, particular, very comfortable in fit which allows an easy walk, thanks to a heel of 50 mm and an ergonomic shape.

I’m currently working on a shoes project for my thesis in Milan, Italy. In my opinion, shoes are pieces of art – they are not only functional, but also inspiring. THIS IS MY ARTWORK – TEMPORARY NIGHT
The reflections of the moon, night lights and the shadows inspired Premrudee’s artwork; we present this author for the second time with a clutch bag. A rigid tubular form, enriched by wiggly puffs makes TEMPORARY NIGHT timeless.
The central form of this lightweight clutch (only 150 gr) is a cylinder with an opening at the top. A single panel, whose structure is formed by 32 thin tubes Alutex, an aluminized fiberglass fabric product with excellent technical and aesthetic qualities, particularly used in the design and furnishing. The tubes are bond with a particular embroidery and lined with black silk embroidered with tubes and curled at the tips.
The panel is then rolled around two discs, left open with the top opening. A structure elegant and at the same time extremely resistant to hits, temperature and weather.
Style and materials merged together for a fashion-tech artwork.

Palermo – Italy, January 31, 1986
My training clearly expresses the two fundamental sides of my professional character – a degree in Industrial Design at the University of Palermo and graduation in Design of Shoes and Accessories at the European Istitute of Design (IED), Barcelona. I always try to combine artistic creativity with industrial rationality. I like to merge forms and contaminate fashion with other forms of art.
THIS IS MY ARTWORK – UP SHOES
Claudia Civilleri’s UP SHOES is a very interesting project. The original idea involved the creation of models with polyurethane mould, but agree with the author, we have preferred a different process to ensure a higher quality of the finished product in terms of ergonomics and stability.
To copy the swelling obtained with the plastic materials, an embroidery machine of the seventies has been found again in a basement, a machine able to sew the strips of two-tone leather, with no visible seams and at the same time, entering expanded material into one of the two colors, creating bulges.
The shoe does not have separate upper and lining, but it is a unique piece. Also outside these are one piece, seamless and blocked just in front. In this way the product is very light and, despite the height of 105mm, the walk is not compromised at all.
A soft, comfortable and elegant object, but at the same time funny and ironic also able to mix style with industrial technology, simplicity of materials with the construction complexity.

LIZA FREDRIKA ÅSLUND
Nyköping, Sweden March 20, 1980.
I studied fashion at the Danish Designschool in Copenhagen, where I’m also living right now. I love to go running in the Swedish forest with my dad and to solve crossword puzzles. In my designs, I like to build things, combine them together, and I also like boring things, boring colours, and boring materials.
THIS IS MY ARTWORK – RECYCLE SHOES
A simple project, but complex construction, requiring the intervention of expert hands to build the entire structure of the shoe and in particular of the heel.
The upper is made of goatskin natural tanned and elastic that has led to make the point plateau with a single piece. The heel is composed of pieces of wood used for the construction of chairs and tables. The wooden parts are properly cut and mounted by hand one by one on an iron pin, painted, dyed and securely fastened to the heel of the shoe as to compose a single body. These wooden heels are so different from one another by being built entirely by hand.
The height of the shoe is 120mm, made with an ergonomic shape, patented by WHAT’S MORE ALIVE THAN YOU® that provides incomparable comfort, thanks to a better weight distribution on the ground while walking.
The Liza Fredrika Åslund’s RECYCLE SHOES will be available in three models with a single color for each model, all characterized by the special orange lining.

Tokyo – Japan, September 28, 1979
My name is Akiko. I was born near Tokyo thirty years ago. When I was a child i wanted to be a scientist and travel around the world, then one day my grandmother made me a dress from a seamstress friend of hers. Seeing this person drawing, cutting and sewing clothes made me take the way of design. I like history and traditions, too, i love old objects and antique prints, but also very modern things. When i think of objects i always try to mix modern feelings with ancient tradition. To me, this means giving continuity to history. My project reflects these wishes of mine and this is the first time i have drawn fashion accessories.
THIS IS MY ARTWORK – MYJABA MONEY
Akiko is inspired by an ancient japanese coin for your first experience as bag’s designer.
The first idea was a mix of iron, silver and precious leather and, as final result, he obtains a small sculpture.
The shape is not exactly circular but it is drawn on paper and transferred on the material which, in the original version, becomes the bark of tree, used to give more value to the sculptural aspect of the artwork.
This simple and essential money-bag was made focusing on the processing of the materials. The bag turns around a bracelet made of burnished aluminium and half covered with a bath of silver 925. The bracelet is all handmade to get a rough and aged appearance and then silvery and tumbled to round every edge off in an irregular way.
The tabs of the slide are made of a thin sheet of burnished and silvery aluminium one by one by hand.
The body of the bag is a special bark which comes from Uganda. The material is taken stripping the trunk of the tree to obtain strips of material. Then these are assembled together to form panels of a size that these can be used both for accessories, clothing and furniture. As for the cork trees, these plants regenerate the bark and then the process repeats itself. The type of bark used for MYJABA was coated with a special latex material in order to provide good resistance to water and to abrasion.
The bag has two dimensions both wearable on wrist as a real bracelet, and the Big one, has also a leather lace that allows you to carry as clutch or on shoulder. You could wear it in a unique way keeping the bracelet as the Discobolus would like.

London – United Kingdom, September 24, 1988
I’m a creative and dynamic final year Fashion Innovation student, currently studying at the University for the Creative Arts, Epsom. I live just outside London, in the UK. I am really looking forward to being a part of such a groundbreaking international Fashion and Art initiative, as this is part of my own philosophy as a designer and artist. My floral shoes collection for WHAT’S MORE ALIVE THAN YOU® has been inspired by natural forms within the local environment and the use of environmentally friendly materials and fabrics; as well as through my work placements for British-based designers Julien Macdonald and Erdem. I aim to work for a pioneering fashion house with the long-term objective of pushing forward the boundaries of conceptual and contemporary design.
Victoria proves her true passion for nature in her choice of textures, colours, and materials. Her idea takes a cue from the surrounding world and translates into a tiny collection of elegant, 100% environment-friendly shoes.
THIS IS MY ARTWORK – FLORAL SHOES COLLECTION
A small collection of floral shoes 100% natural. Upper made of organic cotton printed with water colors in different textures, one for each United Kingdom Queen.
The peculiarities of this artwork are just the textures, drawn from a photographic base; these dress completely the models with the exception of the sole. The design is so visible from every angle, and wears both the plant and the heel of the shoe, as if you were wearing a flower vase. The installation of the product is made completely by hand to make sure that every part of the design matches as possible.
The form (shape) of the shoe is ergonomic, patent owned Wmaty s.r.l. and ensures a strong comfort for these models with 105 mm heel. The ergonomic shape of the shoe in fact allows you to distribute more evenly the weight of the body both when walking and standing position; the materials used for the insole and the lining were designed and realized to provide stability of the foot without pressure.
Two models in 4 textures. A decolleté with curved heel which design is taken in front with a point upwards and a boot from the same rounded shape made of just two pieces shaped on tip.
