Starting today, the Serpentine Gallery in London will open its doors to the public to present Jeff Koons’ Popeye Series. This will be Koons’ first major exhibition in a public gallery in England, which is why they are expected to draw in BIG crowds. The show includes a number of monumental oil paintings featuring the iconic figures of Popeye and Olive Oyl, as well as a number of his sculptures inspired in inflatable beach and bath toys.

If you happen to be lucky enough to be in the big L these days, be sure to head over to the gallery this Thursday (July 2nd) as Koons himself will be conducting a rare talk about his work!
If not, there’s lots of high res pics over at colectiva!

Check this little tribute out, more images.

In 1949 Gjon Mili (photographer for LIFE magazine) visited Pablo Picasso in Vallauris, France. During his visit, he showed Picasso some photographs of ice skaters with tiny lights affixed to their skates jumping in the dark. Story has it that Picasso was immediately inspired and got to it, and these photos are the result.

Lisbon based artist and graphic designer Luigi di Silvanni took the well known WW2 time poster “Keep Calm and Carry On” and gave it a comical Simpsonized twist. If you were yellow, had spiky or blue-ish Everest like hair, this is what you would see in the walls of Springfield by this days.
The “Leave Duff and Carry On” poster is available in 8 standard color schemes but is totally personalizable to match your mood and ambiance. Leave Duff and Carry On

We’re always a sucker for classic Mario. Hopefully Nintendo is working on something like this for next Christmas. More here.

Daniel Bogan is a guy obsessed with pixels. So obsessed, as a matter of fact, that he created a huge series of animated shorts showcasing some amazing pixel illustration. Using a hacked ResEdit CICN editor, Daniel took screenshots of each completed frame and then pasted it into a GIF editor. The final results are hilarious and inspiring to those who obsessive over old-school solutions to today’s problems.
