Artist Biography: Daniel Adel (b.1962) graduated from Dartmouth College in 1984 with a degree in Art History. He continued his studies at the National Academy of Design, and at the Hunter College MFA program in New York City. While developing his own work, his commissioned projects have been featured in the pages of The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, and The New York Times, among others.

For the past twelve years, I’ve made countless expeditions into the deserts of the American West to photograph and artistically address the poetic relationship between the human body and the awe-inspiring landscape. My first book Bodyscapes (2007) contained vibrant creative artwork with painted bodies moving through some of the most diverse landscapes on earth. This Kickstarter will allow me to round off the necessary funding to complete, print and publish a second book of photography.

Using no more than a single sheet of paper, each sculpture is made by cutting the paper and then using only the removed paper to create the figures for each piece.

Young designer Klaus Haapaniemi had wowed us earlier in the year, his retina-popping prints the backdrop for Stockholm Design Week’s HEL YES! pop-up – and it’s those visual concepts that are the starting point for this delightful array of hand woven silk brocades and jaw-dropping rugs; the galloping horses of the Purple Haze Rya Rug (manufactured by The Friends of Finnish Handicraft) serving as the show-stopping centrepiece.
