The Sinkholes: What happens When the Earth Opens Up

The Sinkholes What happens When the Earth Opens Up 19 @ GenCept 650x432 The Sinkholes: What happens When the Earth Opens Up

The ground beneath our feet, our cars, our buildings, appears to be incredibly solid. But, rarely, that solid ground can simply open up without warning, dropping whatever was above into an unpredictably deep.hole. Sinkholes can be anywhere from a few feet wide and deep, to two thousand feet in diameter and depth. An undiscovered cavern or deep mine can collapse, allowing the ground above to crater, or a broken water main or heavy storm can erode a hole from below, until the surface becomes a thin shell that collapses at once.

Serene Waters of Hawaii

169 Serene Waters of Hawaii

Amazingly every wave produces different textures from the last – from powerful blasts rushing over calmer water to gentle waves splashing together. Photographer Bryce Groark, is no stranger to the fascinating waves having lived on the island for 13 years and becoming inspired by other photographers snapping the water. But ironically after trying it for himself, he was drawn to those images where he missed the crest of the wave and instead preferred the ones where the wave had already crashed.

Free Dive Hunters

Eyeconic Images is the partnership of DJ Struntz and Logan Mock-Bunting, two internationally renowned photographers with a passion for story-telling, image-making and the ocean.

167 Free Dive Hunters

Spearfishing is a type of hunting done with underwater guns, harpoons and strong line. Freediving is a type of breath-hold diving in which divers descend for the duration of one breath, without any SCUBA tanks or any breathing apparatus. The best freedivers can hold their breath for over five minutes and go deeper than 100 feet. The combination of both these skills makes a high adrenaline sport done by only a few brave souls…

Ren Chapman prepares for a dive with a loaded and ready speargun while another diver rests, holding onto a dive-line to stay in position against the current. “Blood in the water – Predive”

Ice Bubbles Create Picturesque Scene at the Foot of the Rocky Mountains

164 Ice Bubbles Create Picturesque Scene at the Foot of the Rocky Mountains

Located at the foot of the Rocky Mountains on the North Saskatchewan River, the rare phenomenon occurs each winter in the man-made lake. The simple but stunning nature of the bubbles was captured on camera by a 40-year-old American photographer, Chip Phillips, who walked onto the lake for a better view of the scene. Ice bubbles occur during the months of November and March when the plants on the lake bed release methane gas, which freezes as it comes closer to the cold surface of the lake.
