Serene Waters of Hawaii

169 Serene Waters of Hawaii

Amazingly every wave produces different textures from the last – from powerful blasts rushing over calmer water to gentle waves splashing together. Photographer Bryce Groark, is no stranger to the fascinating waves having lived on the island for 13 years and becoming inspired by other photographers snapping the water. But ironically after trying it for himself, he was drawn to those images where he missed the crest of the wave and instead preferred the ones where the wave had already crashed.

167 Free Dive Hunters

Spearfishing is a type of hunting done with underwater guns, harpoons and strong line. Freediving is a type of breath-hold diving in which divers descend for the duration of one breath, without any SCUBA tanks or any breathing apparatus. The best freedivers can hold their breath for over five minutes and go deeper than 100 feet. The combination of both these skills makes a high adrenaline sport done by only a few brave souls…

Ren Chapman prepares for a dive with a loaded and ready speargun while another diver rests, holding onto a dive-line to stay in position against the current. “Blood in the water – Predive”

Ice Bubbles Create Picturesque Scene at the Foot of the Rocky Mountains

164 Ice Bubbles Create Picturesque Scene at the Foot of the Rocky Mountains

Located at the foot of the Rocky Mountains on the North Saskatchewan River, the rare phenomenon occurs each winter in the man-made lake. The simple but stunning nature of the bubbles was captured on camera by a 40-year-old American photographer, Chip Phillips, who walked onto the lake for a better view of the scene. Ice bubbles occur during the months of November and March when the plants on the lake bed release methane gas, which freezes as it comes closer to the cold surface of the lake. Meteors… You know… Those things that killed the dinosaurs and threatened our planet and very existence in many hollywood films (Such as the 1979 film titled simply “Meteor”). They don’t just threaten our planet though, they threaten every planet in our solar system and beyond! Our culture is very familiar with these things and with all the films and recently the “eyes on the sky” for incoming objects to earth they are on our minds now more than ever. Rightly so, because as you know…

A Massive Rotating Supercell Filmed Near Booker, Texas by Mike Olbinski

346 650x364 A Massive Rotating Supercell Filmed Near Booker, Texas by Mike Olbinski

On June 3rd of this year after four years of trying, Arizona photographer and storm chaser Mike Olbinski finally got the shot he’d been searching for: the formation of a gigantic rotating supercell. After four trips to the central plains since 2010, Oblinski and friend Andy Hoeland were tracking storms in northern Texas last week when they spotted this unbelievable cloud formation. The duo were actually forced to drive right through the storm system (which didn’t spawn a tornado) to obtain this unworldly footage that might as well have been shot on Jupiter, but in the end it was all worth it. Make sure to view it in HD, full-screen, and you can read more about the once-in-a-lifetime encounter over on hisblog. (via vimeo)
