How to Make Good Pictures (USA editions)

In 1898 Eastman Kodak published a guide book for amateur photographers – ‘Picture Taking and Picture Making‘. In 1905 this book was revised, and the contents of two other booklets (‘Home Portraiture‘ and ‘Amateur Portraiture by Flash Light‘) plus some other articles were added, to form a more comprehensive book – ‘The Modern Way in Picture Making‘. ‘The Modern Way in Picture Making‘ remained in print, with a revised edition in 1907, until 1912, when it was replaced by ‘How to Make Good Pictures‘. This book remained in print until almost the end of the century, with a change of title in 1981 to ‘How to Take Good Pictures‘.

In the USA there were 37 editions, with many reprints and variations. In the UK there were fewer editions. The early UK editions were based heavily on the USA editions; later editions became more independent. The book became a truly world-wide phenomenon, with a great many editions in other countries and other languages. Many editions world-wide were based on the UK editions.

Below are some photography guide book covers published by Kodak in USA in the past.

Lovely Graphic and Print Design Inspiration

Searching for design inspiration takes a lot of time if you browse galleries because you will not find only high quality design works, but also some that are simply average, or below. Having a few sites who create articles by curating the design galleries is a must. You will save time that you can use to create that beautiful design your client wants.

A graphic design project may involve the stylization and presentation of existing text and either preexisting imagery or images developed by the graphic designer. For example, a newspaper story begins with the journalists and photojournalists and then becomes the graphic designer’s job to organize the page into a reasonable layout and determine if any other graphic elements should be required. In a magazine article or advertisement, often the graphic designer or art director will commission photographers or illustrators to create original pieces just to be incorporated into the design layout. Or the designer may utilize stock imagery or photography. Contemporary design practice has been extended to the modern computer, for example in the use of WYSIWYG user interfaces, often referred to as interactive design, or multimedia design.

This article has 18 examples of graphic and print design inspiration, showcasing newly released creations made by talented designers.
