Incredible Photos Of a Teenage Many Pacquiao Training In 1995

boxManny-Pacquiao

Everyone knows Manny Pacquiao is currently preparing for the biggest fight of his career when he finally faces Floyd Mayweather May 2 in Las Vegas, but you may not know that his professional boxing career started 20 years ago in his native Philippines. At the time, the teenage Pacquiao was just 4’11” and 98 pounds. In fact, he was so small that he had to hide weights in his pockets to make the 105-pound minimum. Over the next 20 years and 64 fights, Pacquiao would go on to win ten world titles across eight divisions, the only boxer to do so. Not too bad for a kid who once lived on the streets of Manila.

A Day In The Life Of Afghanistan’s Women’s National Cycling Team

Masooma Alizada, a member of Afghanistan’s Women’s National Cycling Team is reflected in a mirror at a house in Kabul February 20, 2015. Afghanistan’s Women’s National Cycling Team has been breaking new ground for women’s sports and pushing the boundaries of what is – and is not – acceptable for young women in the conservative Muslim country. Under the Taliban in the 1990s, women in Afghanistan were excluded from public life, banned from going to school or stepping outside their home without a male family member. Women’s rights have made gains since the hardline Islamist group’s ouster in 2001, but observers worry that progress is at risk as gender-based violence persists and women remain under-represented in politics. When it was first invented in the 19th century, chronophotography—a technique used to capture a subject’s movement in one or several frames—was mostly used for scientific purposes to study people and animals. But when applied to the serves and strokes of tennis player Louis Fabre in Jean-Yves Lemoigne’s photographs for BKRW Magazine, the technique functions to reveal, in astonishing detail, the grace and artistry of those who play the game.
