House in Yamato-Cho
Japanese firm architect cafe has sent us images of ‘house in yamato-cho’, a three-storey dwelling in a densely populated residential neighbourhood of the city. limited on both sides by adjacent buildings, the levels are terraced back in a wedding-cake-like fashion, opening up the ceiling to a strip of skylights that illuminate the interior below.

3D Chess Board
The chess board (and precursors thereof) has been flat since its inception some 1500 years ago during the reign of the Gupta Empire in India. For centuries, grandmasters and beginners alike have been content to move their pawns, rooks, and bishops on a 2D surface but that doesn’t have to be the case any more. Designer Ji Lee has created a 3D chessboard which adds varying heights to the play board and positions the various pieces in stair-step fashion. Via Buzzaurus.
