Daily Inspirations no. 238

Speaking about inspiration, let us turn to the wisdom and experience of the greatest artists once again. Pablo Picasso once said: “The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place: from the sky, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider’s web.” Indeed, the sources of inspiration are versatile and a true artist is capable to find inspiration all around. The aim of Cruzine is just to suggest some possible destinations, where one can look for inspiration for himself. That is why, we publish photographs, paintings, illustrations, font designs, pictures of architecture and technology design on a daily basis. Also, we offer some freebies to support inspiration and give designers more tools and resources in order to help them realize ideas, prompted by their own imagination and creative thinking.

Daily Inspirations no. 92

“Art is never chaste. It ought to be forbidden to ignorant innocents, never allowed into contact with those not sufficiently prepared. Yes, art is dangerous. Where it is chaste, it is not art.” These words by Pablo Picasso, surely, express the provocative character of the artist himself and describe his unique understanding of art and life. However, while being pretty controversial, this saying clearly underlines one key feature of the true art – expressiveness and meaningfulness. Indeed, art cannot be neutral or vague; instead it should express multiple emotions and make people think over the proposed topics. If so, there is no other way for the art but to become a powerful source of inspiration for all those in need.

Fil Dunsky – the “Marmalade” Illustrations to the Reggae Music

“All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.” Looking at the bright, naïve, funny, highly detailed and live-colored illustrations by Fil Dunsky, a 25-years old Russian illustrator, it seems this man of art has managed to find the key to unlock the problem once stated by his style guru – Pablo Picasso. Describing his style of illustrations, Fil says: “It is like marmalade: sweet, childish, positive, cheerful… It is like a 5-years old child sitting on the ground and playing with colors and forms”. Being already a well-established yet instantly progressing graphic illustrator with the solid portfolio of completed works for many local and world-known trademarks, such as Wrigley, Milka, Coca-Cola, Beeline, Fil Dunsky enjoys the freedom of freelance work from his own studio in the Far East Russian city of Vladivostok.

How to Kickstart a Design Project – Brainstorming 101

Every creative process commences with the search for inspiration. To follow up on my previous post on inspiration, let us talk about this process of research. Inspiration can be derived from daily life around us, nature’s beauty or from other interconnected artistic mediums. What we are going to focus on here is research from the oodles of inspiring content on the interwebs. The process of brainstorming is the initial step of researching. When we begin our quest for inspiration, we need not have a specific path, but a general direction. Pablo Picasso is reputed to have quoted “You have to have an idea of what you are going to do, but it should be a vague idea.“

Picasso’s Light Drawings

In 1949 Gjon Mili (photographer for LIFE magazine) visited Pablo Picasso in Vallauris, France. During his visit, he showed Picasso some photographs of ice skaters with tiny lights affixed to their skates jumping in the dark. Story has it that Picasso was immediately inspired and got to it, and these photos are the result.
