“Looking For Mr.Goodsex”: A Series Of Paintings Of Un-Cropped Stills Taken From Vintage Adult Movies

A series of paintings by the artist Alexandra Rubinstein (previously featured here) of un-cropped stills taken from vintage porn films made during the Golden Age of Porn that was launched with “Deep Throat”.

Inspired by the 1985 movie of the same title, the stills highlight the emphasis on women’s faces and expressions – which are less dominant in contemporary videos. This disparity questions progression in sexuality and value placed on female pleasure as pornography has become more accessible and mainstream. The portraits also give insight to the bigger narrative. While the styling and acting portray a romanticized version of reality, the faces suggest vulnerability and withdrawal. The series evolved into stills of male faces and kissing stills.
