and when you’ve forgotten how to love
I just got back from Sydney, Australia where I thought I was far enough away from my home town of Chicago to have any influence on me. But while I was checking out a local book store I came across a few art books published by Design Is Kinky. The books are called Semi Permanent and while I was flipping through one of them I almost lost it my mind when I saw two images from one of my favorite Chicago Artists, Shawn Stucky!! (Congratulation to you for being published in Australia.) I’ve posted the two images that were in the books below. You can find his website here www.shawnstucky.com and he has some stuff for sale at his Etsy site too www.etsy.com/shop/sgstucky

Violence in Chicago

Stic
Here’s another amazing Chicago artist. He goes by the name blütt (the name originates from his last name) I have several of his pieces, I’ve even had one stolen from me (that’s famous right!?) He’s a beer drinking, bike riding, vegan who doesn’t take too kindly to the local Chicago hipsters, but then again who does! His stickers are all over Chicago, really, just look around any major intersection and i’m sure you’ll find something behind a street sign or newspaper box. Anyways, his drawings make me happy. Check out more of his work at: www.flickr.com/photos/blutt
The sculptures and illustrations of Russ White

A light sculpture titled “Avalon”

A wood sculpture. Titled “The-Apostatic”

Here are two illustrations the top one is titled “Retards” fitting for the characters and the second on is called “Candy Cane Xmas” (love it)

Here is a small collection of a Chicago sculpture and illustrator, Russ White. I’ve never actually met him but I did see some of his wood sculptures a few years ago. I just recently stumbled across his work again and found out he is also an illustrator. WOW! Double talented!! You can see more of his wood sculptures here at BusinessJones.com or if you like, he also has an illustration website which can be found at Russ-White.com

Street Art

Street Art

Drawing on paper
If you’ve ever been in Chicago then you’ve probably seen some street art by *rejoice* When I lived in Wicker Park I use to see his work every where. As the years went by his work started to fade from my mind. Until today when I was riding my bike to work and I saw a piece of his near the Industrial Corridor, it made me smile. I’m so happy to rediscover his work. He doesn’t have an office website but you can see his work on his Flickr page.
Scott Urban

Absolutely amazing!! These hand carved eye-glasses are created by Scott Urban here in Chicago. YES, everything is hand carved, the frame and the lens! He’s a craftsman, artist, designer, and maker all wrapped up into one. Just impressive. Check out more of his work here at: www.urbanspectacles.com
Eric Mecum

A fantastic Chicago painter, Eric Mecum. I saw some of his work at the Flat Iron building here in Chicago’s Wicker Park. He’s a solid guy with a rockin’ moustache. Check out all his work on his website. www.ericmecum.com
Benjamin June
I met Benjamin about 3 years ago at an artist talk. He’s soft spoken and very modest. He had a show in Chicago last year that was fantastic. He hand stitched a massive amount of pillows to represent the every single Iraq Suicide Attack. A very impressive project.

Shawn Stucky

Bathed In New Light

One Rainy Wish

Extraction-STRUGGLE
I met this guy at a Joe Pug concert last year. He designed Joe’s album art which was beautiful and unique. He had just closed a successful show in London and was celebrating. I got one of his cards and saw more art online – Amazing work, probably one of the most naturally gifted screen printers around. Just looking at the work on his website, shawnstucky.com it’s easy to see how quickly his aesthetic has evolved in the few short years that he’s been making art. And it seems like he’s getting attention from everywhere, having shown in several countries around the world. From what I’ve read, his work is inspired by a rich dream life, which might account for the mysterious and iconic nature of the imagery. Stucky’s work elevates screen printing.
