all of the paintings on this section were larger outdoor remakes of canvases i had painted and exhibited during the art basel artfair.
white walls gallery took care of all the responsibilities of plane flight, penthouse suite, infinite paint,
and my all i could drink bar tab i had at the deuce bar in south beach for 2-months!my part of the deal was to be paint non-stop all day, all night!
i was chained by foot a scissor lift filled with paint supplies and commanded to paint murals.
i was only unchained for maximum of 1 hour per night to eat and drink.
when i painted slower than normal they would whip me with a cat-of-nine whip and yell obscenities at me.“if you do good to the devil, out of gratitude he will deliver you to hell faster.”

ALL OF THE LIGHTS: light-diffraction engraving prints by Alexander Hollander
On August 5th, Alexander Hollander, producer & promoter, has opened his first art exhibition called ALL OF THE LIGHTS (in Russian the name means “Colors of light”) in Saint-Petersburg, Russia.
The exhibition took place at the NEVSKY 8 Art centre, the art gallery located in the very heart of the historical part of the city.
Alexander created 12 foiled light-diffraction prints with Swiss and German city views, from engravings of Matthäus Merian, Swiss engraver from the XVII century.
The General Consul of Switzerland Mr. Ernst Steinmann was so kind to support the opening ceremony with a welcome speach and Swiss wine.

Untitled – V | acrylic on canvas | 36″ x 36″ | 2010 |
Nature sheds around me a deep influence, and whenever I find myself be with my own self, I can perceive the soul of beauty in nature with its brilliant hues recollected and imprinted in and through my art. As my art makes my path clear to reach my destination, I find myself going along with nature. I feel as if flying with birds and clouds with wind in the vast blue sky as my companions, this is a strange relationship and so strong that it lingers till eternity.

“Reality with substance” | acrylic on canvas | 48″ x 48″ | 2011 |
The magic of these lines prevail over the whole universe and gives an identity to unknown objects of nature. All these lines find their evolution from that single line which when splits gives multitude lines and colours but this division is never still, it is ever transforming and moving my life for me. My art is also like these ever flowing lines and colours.

“Different path to God” | acrylic on canvas | 36″ x 36″ | 2011 |
I believe abstraction can touch upon something primary about our direct perception of being human. I’m interested in connecting the complex relationships between the natural world and personal experience as they relate to color, scale, line, texture and direction.

STICKS & STONES by ABOVE

I was flown to Adelaide, Australia to paint a mural on a 63 metre (200 foot) long wall. Within just 3 days of my arrival I fell and broke my scapula in 2 parts as well as suffering from a head concussion ending up in the hospital twice. Part of my responsibilities for this mural project was to be a mentor to 3 already extremely talented local Australian artists making this project a collaborative effort and highly entertaining. As a collective we decided to comment and paint a word play to relate the adversities of this wall’s rocky surface, and fact that I literally fell broke my bones during this project. In the end it was the words that were always there to save us!
Please familiarize yourself with the amazingly talented crew of artists who made this project come to life & watch video: Continue reading »

Bob Hoke – the art bargain
If you have a keen scent for art, you may be lucky to notice sometimes a very talented artists, who are so modest and unpretentious, that they are living as a simple people and selling their masterpieces as if it is just a bread ot or pair of boots.
But one day somebody pay them 1000 times more for one of their piece, and they become really expensive, day by day since that time. It’s like a dream. History knows lots of examples.
Until then one have a chance to invest in his own future wealth, buying their art on the simple ebay auction or by personal request.
Here is a guy like that, which was recongized by me – his name is Bob Hoke.
Bob Hoke says:
I’m a bohemian dumpster divin outsider artist/painter. Aint got a lot of formal training. Been painting on and off most of my life. For the last 10 years I have been displaying my paintings on ebay. I paint approximately 30 to 40 paintings a month. Nothing the same but a common thread of chaos and humor. I live in an old church (1925) in downtown historic Hannibal, Missouri along the vast Mississippi river. I sleep and eat downstairs and paint upstairs.
Here are some works of Bob Hoke and his partner T-Marie Nolan:

LOOKING 4 RIDE…ANYWHERE! by ABOVE
I’ll be the first to tell you (and those who have unfortunately met me) that I have some serious addiction “problems.” Dealing with addiction is not always easy. Being honest with oneself and to not be in denial about such problematic issues is the first step to recovery.
I must admit now that I am addicted to traveling and painting! I just can’t stop doing each and when I try to stop for small amounts of time I go even crazier than I already am diagnosed with. This piece was more of a personal tribute and way of dealing with this addiction. It’s a honest reflection of what matters to me in my life and why I live each day. There is no better feeling in the world to me than going to a new city and painting a fresh wall! Enjoy the site specific stencil, and have a good laugh.
