Incredible Photography: LIFE – 2011 Pictures of the Year
Every year is made up of countless moments that humble us, terrify us, sadden us. Moments that make us laugh, cringe, shake our heads in disbelief or wonder. Photographers strive to capture those moments, to tell us something of the times we live in. This gallery presents the pictures that did just that over the past year: In a photo that neatly captures the chaotic, earnest, rag-tag nature of the insurgent force that battled Col. Muammar Gaddafi’s military for most of 2011, rebels fighters scatter after coming under fire from pro-Gaddafi troops outside the town of Ras Lanuf in mid-March. Gaddafi himself was captured and subsequently killed on October 20; three days later, Libya’s National Transitional Council announced the end of the country’s civil war. Recently, on 11.11.11 to be exact, I had the opportunity to witness one of the most phenomenal art performances I’ve ever seen. Aaron Kizer, of Kizer Arts, who does speed painting and amazing street art, created the above tribute painting of Steve Jobs in less than 6 minutes! Most would assume that Kizer practiced for months for such an event, but just a week before the show he was soliciting suggestions on his Facebook Page for whom he should paint and why… needless to say, Steve Jobs was a popular suggestion. He didn’t reveal until the end, as you see it all come together, that Steve Jobs was indeed the person he chose to honor in art.

How to achieve a feminine charm with the sleek implementation of androgynous fluidity without a loss of the third gender illusion? Hedi Slimane by the means of his Boy Crazy editorial wouldn’t have problems answering the question while capturing such an androgynous vibe. By channelling the ’50s rockabilly hairrevival and cross dressing on the female models, the photographer cunningly manipulates the concept of the gender blur.

In sports world, ‘doing stairs,’ is generally a treacherous endeavor that leaves one with burning calf muscles and an overabundance of lactic acid (Cough, cough… wheeze). The Puma House, in Tokyo, is looking at stairs from a whole new angle. Located in the city’s Aoyama design district, the Puma House encompasses the brand’s press room and event zone, all in one dynamic space, allowing for exhibitions, events, fittings, product launches and other media events.
Men’s Style – Iceberg Spring 2012

Rugged and worn were two themes of Iceberg’s collection, which we surprisingly liked after our disdain for last season’s collection.
The slouchy silhouettes were created with easy to wear jackets and sweaters in linen and cotton while trousers were flowy (silk/linen blend, maybe?), with pops of yellow and red to lighten the mood a bit from the models worn faces (intentionally worn, of course). Continue reading »
