HYMAN ROTH
THIS IS ME
Miami – United States, October 11, 1980
As a child I was a little clumsy but I liked everything that was described as irregular in shape and colour. I think that this way they helped me in that I have undertaken further studies at the International University of Art & Design in Miami and continues to influence my current work. I love to create jewellery with primitive materials, colour contaminate apparently in against each other, develop forms dictated mainly by following the will of my hands, I am fascinated to give birth to a precious object that can highlight the identity of the wearer from a simple piece of clay. A jewel for me is just that, a small object that has its own life, a history and inevitably tells that the wearer.
ANTONELLA IOVINELLA
THIS IS ME
Naples – Italy, August 4, 1960
My artistic career began as a painter first, looking for shapes and light, to know later, the sculpture in a game of empty and full. I love to write poems and stories. I think that art should express our deepness, to be true. Wear a shoe, a jewel, click the bag, creating a world, (our little world). We feel that the object reflects our personality. And in my constant wandering encounter the art of ” SENSAZIONINDOSSATE “; and that expression of the design.
The idea that everything can be reinvented, the mixture of forms, materials, excites me.
I’m in constant search. And I think that this is the secret to vitality and joy to our world of feeling, which can be enclosed, in that very small object “of ARTE”.
ROMINA MAGRINI
THIS IS ME
Marsciano (PG) – Italy – July 8, 1985
I am a female student with a great interest in high fashion, and accessories such as bags, shoes and jewellery. I work on my fashion projects in Umbria, Italy. I believe that fashion is a form of art, and every fashion item, whether it is a dress, shoes, or a bag, comes to life in my mind like a woven fabric. The design is made up of a network of threads: inspiration, style, and simple, original fabrics combining to create complex, structured works of art. I love to use apparently contrasting materials in my creations, such as artificial fur, plastic, and chiffon, with elegant details and jewellery-zips.
My design is focused on freedom and a spirit of invention, and epitomizes frivolity and glamorous creativity, experimentation, and innovation.
ISAURA MANO
THIS IS ME
Padua – Italy, May 28, 1984
I deal with fashion since 6 years.
In these years I could work in different roles and fields of fashion, everything with its own baggage, I try to take from it anything that can help me to improve. Every object, fabric, accessory is just a tool to create a better self-image and creativity.
CASSANDRA MONTI
THIS IS ME
Florence – Italy, October 12, 1976
Geologist, graduate in Art and with an Artistic Passion at 360°.
Since 3 years I work like geologist, but about 1 years ago I felt strongly the necessity to follow my nature, I required to be ME. So I started to build my way, with a new little step every day. The last October I was selected for the Texmedin Design Challenge, now I’m working on this fashion project, and at the end of May my dress will leave Italy to travel across Europe. At the same time I’m working on many others artistic projects: a new kind of Bag; a ‘Ludiko’ design plan and finally on a my original Fashion Collection. Few days ago the WMATY Winner news made me very happy: I’ll can realize my jewellery project too.
The inspiration for my works come from everywhere, everything and at everytime…the match is to transform ideas in reality.
And so, this is me: a woman on a mission.
LUCA POGGILO
THIS IS ME
Sirolo (AN), Italy – November 15, 1988
My grandfather was a postman and he worked with the bags I have always fascinated me.
Thanks for cleaning the attic of my house this distant memory reappears on my mind, these objects which have been part of my childhood.
Here-hence the idea to revive, in modern way, these accessories still in common use in our daily lives, to reinterpret them, to give them a new life in contemporary forms. This is just a game which makes me child again. I wonder what my grandfather would think.

SOME NEW PROFILES OF PEOPLE SELECTED BY THE THIRD CREATIVE CALL WHAT’S MORE ALIVE THAN YOU®
We introduce you some new profiles of people selected by the third creative call WHAT’S MORE ALIVE THAN YOU®
CRISTINA DE CESARE
THIS IS ME
Nigel – Dunnottar – South Africa, Febraury, 13 1974
From South Africa I take with me the colours, sounds, smells, light and open spaces.
Back to Italy when a child, my training continued with the study of metals first and later jewellery, sculpture and contemporary art.
I split myself up between my passions: design, art and photography, but my real obsession are the jewels and I do not like having them but drawing.
As a contemporary tailor I mend ideas and I create an original fabric. I do not like standardizations and I do not believe in misinformations. I love the contrasts of reality. Thanks to the “contrasts”…I find the “new”.
I live and work in Pescara.
ALBRECHT B. ENGEL
THIS IS ME
Münster, Germany – June 4, 1980
In my studies of architecture I have learned to love the geometric shapes, the essential and strict linearity and I was inspired by them to create new concepts of bags, unisex objects with simple design. My goal is to turn mainly women’s accessories into essential items with elegant lines and with a particular masculine style.
GALINA GREENBAND
THIS IS ME
Nikolaev-Ukraine, May 16, 1977
Newly graduated from Shenkar College of Engineering and Design, Israel. My main focus is on designing shoes. I was born in Ukraine. Today I live in Tel-Aviv. But part of my childhood I have spent in Far North of the USSR, in Chukotka peninsula. Deeply impressed by the nature and the cultural legacy of this exotic place I still use it for my inspiration. The native people of the North believe that all the things surrounding them are possessed with a soul: rifle, shovel, and kettle. I also believe that. I practice this belief through my design. For this purpose I use natural materials like wool and leather.
VERONICA GIAIMO
THIS IS ME
Patti (Messina) – Italy, August 18, 1989
I was born in a small village in Sicily, where I have learned to observe everything. Since I was a child, the only alternative to the monotony of everyday life was playing with my mind, making objects breathing new life through colours, assembling shapes, making everything revive in something new. That’s why I consider myself futurist and a little bit visionary. When I grew up, I managed to apply all this to my passion, turning beauty into functionality. My aim is to create products assembling different materials, making shape and beauty an expression of utility.
COLLEEN P. GROGAN
THIS IS ME
Salt Lake City, Utah USA- June 23, 1988
I recently graduated from the Industrial Design program at Carnegie Mellon University with a minor in Architecture. I have a passion for design accessories of all types. I am currently working on a line of architecturally inspired jewellery for What’s More Alive Than You®. I am especially inspired by various materials and seek to create a delicate balance between various types of design within the realm of accessories.

PEOPLE SELECTED BY THE THIRD CREATIVE CALL
We like to introduce you people selected by the third creative call WHAT’S MORE ALIVE THAN YOU™ for shoes, bags and contemporary jewellery projects.
AKIKO TANAKASHI
THIS IS ME
Tokyo – Japan, September 28, 1979
My name is Akiko. I was born near Tokyo thirty-two years ago. When I was a child I wanted to be a scientist and travel around the world, then one day my grandmother made me a dress from a seamstress friend of hers. Seeing this person drawing, cutting and sewing clothes made me take the way of design. I like history and traditions, too, I love old objects and antique prints, but also very modern things. When I think of objects I always try to mix modern feelings with ancient tradition. To me, this means giving continuity to history. My project reflects these wishes of mine and this is the first time I have drawn fashion accessories.
ERIKKA S. BAHNSEN
THIS IS ME
Copenhagen – Denmark, October, 3 1973

Her passion for making shoes has been a long time ”affair”, and in Erikka´s perspective, shoes are sculptural little objects. Erikka is a specialist in materials, and combining luxury with a sense of humour she succeeds to create wearable luxury shoes for women.
PAOLA BIMASO
THIS IS ME
Brunico – Bozen, Italy – August 12, 1985
I’ve always been fascinated by the contradiction, by the opposites: this is the inspiration of my work. I play with different materials, from the richest to the poorest to create accessories, where this mix is harmoniously combined.
Through my work I try to find out the romantic side of all the contradictions that characterize our society and to combine these stunning dissonances today.
SELEN CORYNELL
THIS IS ME
Oporto, Portugal – March 26, 1977
I think bags are my future: as a child I used to steal my mother’s grocery bags, I wanted to carry them to feel something leaning on my arm: it makes me feel safe, I liked the idea to bring with me a holder to carry things.
That’s why I arrived to design bags, with the aim to turn a simple “things holder” in such a kind of accessory you do not want to leave anymore.
CRUZON LEE
THIS IS ME
Brisbane, Australia – May 2, 1990
I’m not an artist, I’m not a designer but I have a lot of projects on the drawer. Emotions and feelings that I feel I design on a piece of paper, on the back cover of a book.
Mine is an ongoing attempt to turn feelings and emotions into objects, which now, in part, I taken out of the drawer.

What the heel?
Description of my work.
Title: Squares according to the laws of random acts.
Material: Wood, Leather, Metal screws and parts of an old chair I found in the street.
We will introduce the original work of Liza Fredrika Åslund, selected from the first creative call sponsored by What’s More Alive Than You™, the new Italian fashion-art company.
This is not just a shoe, this is an artwork, a mix between art and fashion, sculpture and design. Behind this shoe there is a story, the story of an old chair thrown into the garbage, which becomes the central element of a shoe heel, which is a sculpture.
This artwork is from first What’s More Alive Than You™ PERMANENT COLLECTIONS.

Interview with Liza Fredrika Åslund, one of the selected authors by the first creative call of What’s More Alive Than You™ whose shoes are right now realized
Interview with an author What’s More Alive Than You®, graduated at Danish Design School
What’s More Alive Than You™ presented as preview its first PERMANENT COLLECTION: a series of shoes and bags designed thanks to the creativity of 15 young students and professionals unknown to the general public, but with great skills and talent. Among them not only fashion designers but also architects and product designers, who have accepted the multidisciplinary challenge offered by What’s More Alive Than You ™ by creating objects really special, suitable for those who want to stand out, with the spirit of this new Italian brand which offers wearable objects closer to the world of art and design than to the rules of traditional fashion.
This new brand and its ambitious project are recognized by the press about fashion, design and art of 72 countries. Several Universities around the world already involved their students in our creative calls launched several times per year for the design of the collections; among them 15 are already actively working together in partnership. There are already 45 people selected as authors of the artworks, some of them presented in the first PERMANENT COLLECTION and they come from 19 different countries. A project that started just over a year ago but is creating so much interest and curiosity in thousands of people who every day visit the institutional website.
We therefore wanted to ask one of the authors of the Selection ONE, whose artworks are right now part of the first PERMANENT COLLECTION, what she thinks and which idea she has about this new brand, thanks to her experience in this project.
The young fashion designer is Liza Fredrika Åslund, born in Nyköping, Sweden 30 years ago; she is the author of a beautiful collection of women’s shoes, inspired by environment and re-use of materials.
Tell us who you are and what are you looking for.
I´m always looking for interesting things that capture my imagination. I like words and often a collection starts with a sentence. I sometimes have a problem relating to the strive for perfection in fashion when what captures my eye is the mistakes in fashion, the imperfection.
What about your education and your cultural context?
I studied five years at the danish designschool in Copenhagen for MA in fashion design. I did internships for Ann-Sofie Back and Alexander McQueen in London.
I come from a tiny kind of boring and sleepy place at the eastcoast of sweden with about 1000 inhabitats. I grew up with lots of freedom to build stuff, jump off cliffs and hang with my brother.
Which kind of perspective would you give to fashion thanks to your work?
Sometimes the perfection in fashion can become boring and controlling. I like for fashion to explore the ugly and not so perfect part of us. But in the end turn it in to something you still want to wear and want to look at.
What do you think about the chance given by WHAT’S MORE ALIVE THAN YOU, which allows you to turn your background into a career in designing accessories?
I´ve always loved accessories and I think it´s interesting to learn more about the process of turning my idea into something wearable. It´s something I definetley want to work more with.
What about the name of the brand WHAT’S MORE ALIVE THAN YOU? Do you think this brand name could reflect a contemporary idea of fashion?
Today everything is about stageing yourself and fashion is very individual. What brands you like and how you interpret fashion. It can be to show or hide who you are.
What do you expect by the present and by the future?
I just finished my MA at the danish designschool and now I´m looking for a job where I can use the creative tools I learned in school and learn more about the industry. In the future I would like to have a job where I can have more creative freedom and inspire others.
What could you say to anyone who wants to join our creative calls?
It´s interesting to be in the process from the beginning to the end. To work with the adjustments you have to do to take the idea from beeing just an idea to something that works commercial and technical without compromising your vision to much.
