Awesome ! Romance. Here.
The Making of Marilyn

Fashion photographer Andre de Dienes’s life was changed forever one day in 1945 when he met a lovely young aspiring model named Norma Jean Dougherty. He instantly fell in love with her innocence and charm and the two were briefly engaged. They took many adventurous road trips together in those early years, de Dienes shooting Norma Jean in every possible natural setting in his original, inspired style. He soon built up a huge portfolio of stunning photographs of the smiling brunette which helped to launch her model career and, a few years later, a film career that was to make her a legend.
His entire relationship with the star, including many private moments shared only between the two, is detailed in de Dienes’s secret memoirs, which were discovered when Monroe fans ravaged his home after his death in 1988. Never before published, the memoirs tell a beautiful story of love and friendship from the point of view of someone who knew Marilyn intimately; describing the transformation from Norma Jean to Marilyn Monroe— the evolution of a sensitive, ambitious girl into a deeply troubled megastar— from an inside perspective, they shed light on a little-known side of Marilyn.
Happy Birthday, Norma Jean! Continue reading »

El Mas Santo Project

This is a site of art project and maybe the beginning of a new cult. It has its origins in Poland, where a young artist has chosen lucha libre as the topic of her graduation work at the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznan. The idea was to juxtapose the world of Mexican wrestlers with the grey and sad reality of Polish streets. As it happens, the project got out of control. Luchadores figures, which were originally made as part of the diplomma work, started to show up in different, faraway countries.

Photographer Mark Cohen

Legs and Boy in Pool, 1977

Family Walking, 1977
Mark Cohen occupies a conspicuous place among the innovators of American street photography. Cohen’s photographs are intrusive, fragmented keyhole perspectives depicting the street-life of his hometown, Wilkes-Barre, PA. Taken in the 1970s and 1980s, True Color is a project originally commissioned by the George Eastman House. Mark Cohen’s color images demonstrate chaotic visual narratives, at times harshly flashed, that denote the artist’s invasive style illustrating this American coal-mining region. A somewhat hermetic visual predator, Cohen deliberately seeks closeness to his subjects and finds a way to ambush partial details, a pink jump rope, a green car, a child’s set of bare limbs.
