Photo Series Captures the Quiet Dignity of Search and Rescue Dogs that Served During 9/11

We all know that hundreds of firefighters, police officers and ambulance crews helped out on 9/11 to rescue those trapped in the World Trade Center, but rarely do we hear about the heroic rescue dogs of that fateful day. With the help of FEMA, photographer Charlotte Dumas tracked down 15 dogs who worked to find survivors in the rubble of the twin towers, and fittingly named her photo series Retrieved.
