The Art of Kelp

The Art Of Kelp

When I set out to the Channel Islands for a five day dive trip, I had grand visions of all the shots I wanted to capture. Having dove this area a handful of times, I knew what to expect for what the bulk of the subject matter would be.

Of course, there are the chance encounters that are always so unpredictable, but for me, I knew from past experience, I would be inevitably drawn to the sea fans, or gorgonians, that are the main source of the reds and oranges to go along with the blue water and golden kelp forest.

This year, I knew I wanted to try my hand at isolating some kelp and to focus on its beautiful form. I feel I accomplished that to some degree.

Unfortunately, I have had chronic ear problems related to a decade of diving, I’m sure. On the third day of the trip, my right ear finally gave in. The doctors are unsure, but I’m almost certain I have a perforated ear drum. Yeah, that kinda sucks.

Anyway, if any bay area folks want to come say hello, I will be at the Capitola Art and Wine Festival this weekend, the 12th and 13th from 10am-6pm. I’m artist #121 and will be on San Jose Ave in the Capitola Village.
