USS Recruit was a wooden mockup of a dreadnought battleship constructed by the United States Navy in Manhattan in New York City, as a recruiting tool and training ship during the First World War. Commissioned as if it were a normal vessel of the U.S. Navy and manned by a crew of trainee sailors, Recruit was located in Union Square from 1917 until the end of the war. Continue reading »

Japanese Harvest Festival Displays Massive “Scarecrow” Of Space Battleship Yamato

Chikuzen, Fukuoka is known for its annual harvest festival, where locals work together to construct awesome statues or “scare crows” out of harvested straw. Two years ago, the festival featured an impressive 10-meter straw Godzilla, but this year’s massive structure may have set a new standard. Lego Battleship Yamato Is Biggest Lego Ship Ever

Japanese Lego builder Jumpei Mitsui has been hard at work at a 1:40 model of the famous Battleship Yamato for over a year. This gargantuan model puts the Millennium Falcon to shame, stretching out for over 20 feet and using a whopping 100,000 pieces. The Lego version was constructed at minifig scale (1/40), which is an amazing task that resulted in these specs: 22 feet long, 3 feet wide, 330 pounds and more than 200,000 Lego pieces.
