Frog Freezes Solid while Searching for a Mate on Icy Norwegian Lake
It almost looks like it is sleeping, but sadly, this little frog will not jump again as it froze solid trying to cross a lake in Norway. It is thought that a sudden rise in temperatures fooled the hibernating amphibian and it ventured out across the lake to find a girlfriend. However, as the lake froze, possibly overnight, the frog would have returned to hibernation out in the open, and died from the cold.
Photographer Svein Nordrum, 54, discovered the creature caught out by freezing conditions. He said: ‘I was out skating for a couple of hours and, suddenly; I saw something on the surface of the ice. When I saw it was a frog, frozen stiff, I was quite shocked. I have never seen anything like it before.’ Continue reading »

What’s there to do when temperatures top out in the negative teens? Well, you can stay inside dressed warmly with the heat on like a sane person. Or you can go outside with some hot water and throw it in the air. Judging from posts on Facebook, myriad Minnesotans have chosen the latter option.
Taking it to the next level, photographers Dan and Karin Berdal connected their hose to a spigot in their basement so that they could see more than a single mug’s worth of water freezing midair. 1942 ‘Time Capsule’ Apartment Discovered in Paris
This real-estate story sounds almost like a fairy tale or the beginning of a big Hollywood production.
Back in 2010 a Parisian apartment on the Right Bank, near the Opéra Garnier, left unoccupied since 1942 was discovered. It was owned by Madame de Florian – a socialite and an actress – who fled to the South of France during the second world war, leaving everything behind. She never came back to Paris but kept on paying her rent until the day she died when she was 91. It’s only after she died that someone – a Commissaire Priseur – Auctioneer – re-enter her apartment for the first time in over 70 years. Continue reading »
Man Hilariously Recreates Romance Movie Scenes with Boss’s Dog

For the last month, Chris Naka (aka mmsspp) has been recreating scenes from classic romance movies with his boss’s dog, Wrigley. It all started one day when his co-workers at Blue Man Group in Chicago came up with the idea for Naka to pose with the adorable pooch in a famous scene from Titanic. With Wrigley as Kate Winslet to his Leonardo DiCaprio, Naka embarked on a fun, ongoing project.
Taking only 10-15 minutes during lunch breaks to capture each scene, Naka and his canine love interest have already managed to recreate some of the most memorable movie scenes in film history. From the upside down kiss in Spiderman to the seductive leg shot from The Graduate, the duo have emulated their respective big screen characters in a hilarious, new light. Continue reading »

Carbon Aerogel – The New Lightest Material
The lightest material ever made has been produced by a team of scientists in China, a Chinese university announced. The ultra-light substance, called carbon aerogel, has a density of 0.16 milligrams per cubic centimeter, Zhejiang University in China said in a statement. One sixth of the substance is air. Indian Teenager has the World’s Biggest Collection of Pencils
Many are happy to collect stamps, coins or key rings – but not this stationery-mad teenager. Tushar Lakhanpal, 15, from New Delhi, India, claims to own more than 14,000 pencils in different shapes and sizes from 40 countries around the world. Included in his collection, which he believes could be world record breaking, is a gold-plated implement and two pencils, stored in an ornate box, thought to have been owned and used by Queen Elizabeth II.

These frozen lighthouses in Michigan could easily be mistaken for a scene from the disaster movie The Day After Tomorrow. Standing in temperatures well below freezing, the 30ft structures have been transformed into giant icicles. Amazing Obsidian Carved Crystal Tyrannosaurus Skull
This is a Black Obsidian Tyrannosaurus/dinosaur skull. The skull is 6.4 inches long, from front to back.
Obsidian is actually natural glass that is formed when hot lava is submerged in water. This is a strong grounding stone and is known as “the protector”. It is said to “mirror one’s soul. This stone brings about objectivity, dis-attachment and is grounding. It reduces fantasy and escapism. Absorbs and dissolves anger, criticism, fear, and therefore is protective. Batman’s Adventures in Texas by Rémi Noël
This is, without a doubt, the least precise map of Texas in the history of Texas. Though a less-than-stellar student in geography, French photographer Rémi Noël has been obsessed with the “America” of Jack Kerouac, Edward Hopper and Robert Frank since his early school years. And Texas, with its endless highways and fleabag hotels, is the perfect setting for Noël’s playfully poetic tableaux. The 34 images presented here were taken during four trips to the Lone Star State between 2004 and 2012. From Houston to Marfa by way of Dallas, Noël and a plastic Batman (his only travelling campanion) crisscrossed the State in search of relics of the “timeless America” that inspires Noël so.
An advocate of “old fashioned” photography by pure circumstance, Rémi Noël works exclusively in silver film; none of the photographs presented here have been electronically altered.
