Things we love from Istanbul: pistachio-flavored Turkish delights, handwoven wool kilims, and embroidered wooden clutches. Grav Grav, short for the phrase “gravity is gravity,” is a label started by Merve Burma, a young designer born and raised in Istanbul. Working out of a studio in her hometown, Burma creates unique wooden satchels, backpacks, clutches, and purses—but it was the wooden bags with intricate embroidered detailing that first caught our eye. Artist Miguel Chevalier recently created a series of immersive projections that added a mesmerizing flair to a University of Cambridge charity event. The fundraising occasion featured Chevalier’s designs front and center in the King’s College Chapel, as they cloaked the historic interior in a myriad of changing colors, patterns, and textures. Artist Creates Delicious Smoothie Blends to Match Pantone Color Swatches

Recently, art director Hedvig Astrom Kushner embarked on a deliciously colorful project. “I make a lot of smoothies and discovered it works like mixing paint,” she told us in an email. Playing with this idea of smoothies as paint, Kushner found that adding a strawberry would yield a bright pink hue, while blending in some tofu softened the color’s intensity. This got the designer thinking—is it possible to create a tasty smoothie in any Pantone color? Through her delicious experiment, called Pantone Smoothies, she’s trying to find out. Continue reading »
