This Mural Was Painted Upside-Down To Reflect Off Of The Water
New York-based artist Ray Bartkus has created a beautiful mural in the Lithuanian city of Marijampolė designed to use the surface of the water as its true canvas. Bartkus intentionally painted it upside-down so that the swimmers, rowers and swans he depicted would be reflected right-side-up onto the river Šešupė, which flows through the city’s center.
The image used to demonstrate this effect seems to have been digitally edited, though we’re sure it’s quite impressive in person regardless. Continue reading »
Iconic Images Painted With Coffee by Maria A. Aristidou
Artist and illustrator Maria A. Aristidou has an interesting new project. She has ditched the paints and now uses a more unusual medium, coffee! Maria said that she did her first coffee illustration by accident, but liked the results so much that she chose to create more. She enjoys making coffee paintings of some of her favorite people, characters and animals. New Impossibly Tiny Landscapes Painted on Food by Hasan Kale
From onion peels to kiwi seeds or even bits of chocolate, it seems any canvas is sufficient for Turkish artist Hasan Kale as long as it meets the requirement of being incredibly tiny. Hasan delights in the challenge of depicting landscapes of his native Istanbul in the most infinitesimal of brush strokes, a feat that requires the use of a magnifying glass to appreciate the details of each piece. Painted Donkeys Arrive to St. Paul’s Cathedral
Twenty five life-size donkeys have been given pride of place in St Paul’s Cathedral as part of an interfaith exhibition. They’ve been painted by Egyptian and Western artists, to show solidarity for the people of Egypt. All 25 donkeys have been transported from Cairo for the Caravan exhibition. Each artist, whether Muslim or Christian, was asked to decorate the fibreglass donkey, created by noted Egyptian artist Reda Abdel Rahman. The exhibition runs until 23 September, after which they will be auctioned at Sotheby’s, with all proceeds going to charities in Egypt. (Peter Macdiarmid/Getty Images) Continue reading »
Painted Mil Mi-24 Hind
The pictures are not of an American helicopter, but of a Russian MI-24 “Hind” assault helicopter. It was used extensively by the Soviets in Afghanistan but this paint-job does not appear to be for combat. We suspect it is for purposes of promotion or public performance. There are some pictures of it on display at an air show at Szentkirályszabadja, Hungary. Whether there are others like it, we don’t know, the the only pictures of this paint scheme are all on the same helicopter designated number 117. Continue reading »
