Remember When Traveling by Train Was Wonderful in the 1950s
Before the start of Amtrak in 1971, the Sunset Limited was operated by the Southern Pacific Railroad. The Sunset Limited is the oldest named train in the United States, operating since November 1894 along the Sunset Route (though originally named the Sunset Express). The Sunset Route (originating in New Orleans) is the southernmost of the three gateways to the West Coast envisioned through the Pacific Railroad Acts. In An Old Village In Southern Bavaria, A Unique Ancient Pagan Tradition Is Still Alive
In Oberstdorf [this is] the dance of the wild men (Wilde-Mändle-Tanz), which is held only in this small town, once in five years. Wilde-Mändle-Tanz is dedicated to the Germanic god Thor, and involves 13 men, all of whom belong to old local families who have been living in that region for centuries. Rare ‘Flying Rainbow’ Spotted over Southern China
This ‘flying’ rainbow was spotted over Wanning City, in southern Chinese province of Hainan. The spectacular sight was first witnessed by a child on a fishing boat and later captured on camera by a local photographer. The ‘flying rainbow’ is created when light reflects off ice crystals in clouds, rather than water particles close to the Earth. Continue reading »
Southern California Enjoys Unseasonably Warm Temperatures
