Journey in the Search for the American Dream
Photographer Pavel Prokopchik plans to travel across the USA trying to capture the essence of the American life today. He’d like to find out what “The American Dream” means to people in the USA today. The project he has in mind is one that will shape itself as it proceeds, and is essentially elastic, where unexpected meeting can easily deviate him from my original route. Continue reading »

Fantastic Infrared Photography by Oleg Stelmakh
In infrared photography, the film or image sensor used is sensitive to infrared light. The part of the spectrum used is referred to as near-infrared to distinguish it from far-infrared, which is the domain of thermal imaging. Wavelengths used for photography range from about 700 nm to about 900 nm. Film is usually sensitive to visible light too, so an infrared-passing filter is used; this lets infrared (IR) light pass through to the camera, but blocks all or most of the visible light spectrum (the filter thus looks black or deep red).
Breathtaking infrared photos by Oleg Stelmakh, a photographer from Ukraine. Take a look! Continue reading »

The Urban Greenhouse
Designed by art students Audrey Charré, Clémentine Schmidt and Luc Beaussart, the ‘Urban Greenhouse’ wants to show and give value to the plants which grow by themselves in a city. Those discredit plants are, in fact, healthy, médicinal and sometimes eatable. The first part of the project was to give value by a three-dimensional graphic intervention. The other part of the project was to use those plants like a kind of material to make leaf mould. The organic waste become a strong productive material. The relevance of this project is to see what is already here in the city, to find a purpose to create a cycle from the city. Continue reading »

Greta Oto – The Glasswinged Butterfly
The Glasswinged butterfly (Greta oto) is a brush-footed butterfly, and is a member of the subfamily Danainae, tribe Ithomiini, subtribe Godyridina.
The wings are translucent, with a wingspan of 5.6 to 6.1 cm (2.2 to 2.4 in). Its most common English name is glasswinged butterfly, and its Spanish name is “espejitos”, which means “little mirrors”. Indeed, the tissue between the veins of its wings looks like glass, as it lacks the colored scales found in other butterflies. The opaque borders of its wings are dark brown sometimes tinted with red or orange, and its body is dark in color.
Adults range from Mexico through Panama. The Greta oto may also be found in Venezuela, as there are photographs taken in the mountain area around Caracas.

Photo of the Day: High-Wire Raccoon
This raccoon appeared highly-strung when it was spotted clinging onto a telegraph wire. Photographer Chuck Courson captured the worried-looking critter dangling 30ft in the air as it tried to evade a red-tailed hawk. But he didn’t get a dramatic series of escape shots as the raccoon was frozen to the spot and barely moved a whisker. (Mirror Online) Click image to zoom.
