Orthopedic Components
Orthopedic components hang on a wall in a workshop at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), orthopedic centre on November 19, 2012 in Kabul, Afghanistan. The ICRC rehabilitation centre works to educate and rehabilitate land-mine victims, and those with limb related deformities, back into society and employment offering micro-credit financing, home schooling and vocational training to patients. The clinic itself is unique in that all of the workers are handicapped. The ICRC centre in Kabul has registered over 57,000 patients and 114,000 countrywide in all of their centres since its inception 25 years ago. (Photo by Daniel Berehulak)

Traditional Teddy Bears Prepared Ahead of Festive Season
A teddy bear is completed at the Steiff stuffed toy factory on November 23, 2012 in Giengen an der Brenz, Germany. Founded by seamstress Margarethe Steiff in 1880, Steiff has been making stuffed teddy bears since the early 20th century ever since her nephew Richard Steiff exhibited the first commercially produced teddy bear in Europe in 1903. Sydney Beaches Turn Blood Red From Algae
A swimmer stops short of a red algae bloom at Sydney’s Clovelly Beach on November 27, 2012, which closed some beaches for swimming including Bondi Beach for a period of time. While the red algae, known as Noctiluca scintillans or sea sparkle, has no toxic effects, people are still advised to avoid swimming in areas with discoloured water because the algae, which can be high in ammonia, can cause skin irritation. Miami Zoo Welcomes Two Young Male Cheetahs from South Africa
Zoo Miami’s, Ron Magill and Willy Cotto unload two nine-month old Cheetahs as they arrive at a quarantine facility at Zoo Miami on November 29, 2012 in Miami, Florida. The two sub-adult brothers who arrived today were captive-born on March 6th of this year at the Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre just outside of Pretoria South Africa. The Cheetahs after being monitored and examined for a minimum of 30 days to insure that they are healthy and stable, will be featured in Zoo Miami’s Wildlife Show at the newly constructed amphitheater and will continue the work of Zoo Miami’s Cheetah Ambassador Program by making appearances off zoo grounds at a variety of venues including schools and civic organizations. Australian Smokers React to New Tobacco Packaging Rules
The new cigarette packs are a plain drab colour apart from graphic images of the effects of smoking, a move health researchers believe will cut smoking rates. Australia’s stringent anti-tobacco laws, making manufacturers package cigarettes in drab olive green packs with pictures of ill babies and diseased body parts, come into effect on 1 December. David Glasheen: A Real Life Robinson Crusoe
David Glasheen, dubbed Australia’s Robinson Crusoe, has lived on tiny Restoration Island, off the north-eastern tip of Australia since 1993, accompanied only by his dog Quasi. A former business man, he abandoned a high-flying life in Sydney after losing $AUS10 million £6.5 million in the 1987 stock market crash and his marriage ended. Mr Glasheen, who is now in his late 60s, said he revels in the tranquillity and privacy and has called himself as “the luckiest bloke in the world”. He lives off fish and crab and collects bananas, coconuts and native fruit, as well as growing his own vegetables and brewing beer.
