The Spanish Civil War, fought from 1936 to 1939, was a complex conflict between the Republicans and Nationalists, both vying for control over Spain’s government and its future. The Republicans supported the left-leaning Popular Front government of the Second Spanish Republic and consisted of various socialist, communist, separatist, anarchist, and republican parties. Faith Ringgold was born Faith Willi Jones in 1930 in the Harlem neighborhood of Manhattan. Her mother, a fashion designer and seamstress, encouraged Faith’s creative pursuits from a young age. Ringgold earned a bachelor’s degree from City College of the City University of New York in 1955. “Hong Kong On Fire”: Local Photographer Captured Stunning Images Of The Days In Fight For Civil Rights
The 2019 Hong Kong protests are an ongoing series of demonstrations in Hong Kong and solidarity protests in other cities abroad which began with the aim of withdrawing an extradition bill proposed by the Hong Kong government. If enacted, the bill would allow local authorities to detain and extradite people who are wanted in territories that Hong Kong does not have extradition agreements with, including mainland China and Taiwan. Concerns were raised that the bill would place Hong Kong citizens and visitors under mainland Chinese jurisdiction, undermining the autonomy of the region and people’s rights and freedom. ‘Staying Civil Right Down the Line’ Campaign
The RATP Group is the world’s fifth largest public transport company operating all modes of collective mobility – bus, metro, trains and trams. With over 10 million passengers riding the RATP public transport networks daily, incivilities are a major source of concern for the company. 83% of the residents of the Greater Paris region feel that it is the RATP’s role to encourage passengers to behave properly, and 90% are in favour of a communications campaign on passenger behaviour being conducted in all of RATP’s public transport networks.
With today’s new communications campaign “Staying civil right down the line”, RATP is pursuing its commitment to speak out against incivilities in public transport. Continue reading »
