Emergency Workers From Around The Globe Take Part In The 'Tetris Challenge'!

From Switzerland to Singapore, police, fire and ambulance departments are laying down their tools, and their bodies, to take part in a new craze. The so-called Tetris Challenge started September 1 when Zurich police published this bird’s eye image on social media. It captured two officers on the ground beside the contents of their car laid out in neat, geometric block patterns, like in the popular 1980s video game Tetris. Since then, public services units and enthusiasts from around the world have followed suit, photographing their work equipment in rows beside their vehicles. Continue reading »

Emergency Slide May Save Your Life

An emergency slide is tried out in a building in Shanghai, China. The stainless steel chute has been attached to the banister of the stairs. The idea is that in an emergency the slide would be deployed and people would use it to exit the building quickly rather than using the stairs. Origami Cave Puts a Stylish Spin on Emergency Shelter

Australian architecture firm LAVA exhibited its inhabitable “Origami Cave” as part of The Emergency Shelter exhibition, which was held in Sydney earlier this month. The exhibition featured architects from around the globe including Ateliers Jean Nouvel, PTW Architects, Tonkin Zulaikha Greer, Cox, Koichi Takada Architects, Sou Fujimoto and Terunobu Fujimori. Each architect was asked to create a shelter that would not only protect people from the elements during an emergency situation, but would also provide a space that was secure and comfortable in the aftermath of a disaster.
