The World’s Largest LED Light Sculpture
The San Francisco Bay Bridge is lit up with the world’s largest LED light sculpture. It stretches 1.8 miles (2.89km) and is 500 feet (152,4m) high. The Bay Lights exhibit has 25,000 white LED lights that are individually programmed by artist Leo Villareal to create a never-repeating display across the Bay Bridge’s west span. (EPA/MONICA M. Distant Light Clothing
Distant Light is an independent clothing brand established in Los Angeles. Based off of the quote, “follow the light at the end of the tunnel”, Distant Light strives to achieve an authentic style constructed around perseverance. Producing only the highest quality of goods and apparel, once a product is sold out it may never be reproduced again. The Cocoon Light Structures
The “cocoon light structures” that Israeli-born designer Ayala Serfaty creates don’t look like anything you plug into a wall. They look more like organisms that glow. Using thin, transparently tinted lamp filaments as “glass veins” that create both depth and surface, the tubes are then sprayed with a clear polymer in thin strands, connected like a spiderweb around the tubes, to generate “a skin-like crust,” or what Serfaty has called “a membrane of sorts” that feels like a soft cocoon. (In fact, the process was developed in the late 1940s by the U.S. military for cocooning ships.)

A New SPiN on Low Light Photography
SPiN Galactic features 12 tables in a club light setting, there is some very cool lighting but very challanging to photograph. Each table is lit with a square of light directly above the table simular to a pool table, there are several other sources of light that make it difficult to find a white balance that works. To make things a little more difficult as the player backs away from the table during a volley they move out of the light falling onto the table. In photographs by Steve Russell for Toronto Star.
At SPiN Toronto at 461 King Street West, ping pong players can play at the 12 tables and 12,000 square foot clubhouse. SPiN was founded in New York and has Susan Sarandon as an investor. Continue reading »
Let There Be Light
A young woman grasps an artistic reconstruction of the legendary “Königsteiner Weinfass” — the wine barrel of Königstein – in a cellar of a fortress in Saxony, eastern Germany, on Sept. 15. By carefully arranging thousands of green Bordeaux bottles, the architect Hans Dieter Schaal tried to evoke Augustus II the Strong’s giant wine barrel from the days of the Holy Roman Empire.
