While growing up in post-communist Warsaw, photographer Zuzanna Szarek dreamt about the movies, toys, and food produced in America. McDonald’s was one aspect of the culture readily available to Szarek as a child in the 90s, and its Happy Meal toys always provided a rush of excitement. Today Warsaw is undergoing rapid changes, with hip stores and restaurants popping up as fast as its skyscrapers. The UEFA Euro 2016, which kicked off last week in France, has been marred by acts of violence and hooliganism—with repeated clashes between the French police and football fans. In response to these heinous acts, McDonald’s has created a series of ads that hopes to bring football fans together instead. McDonald’s Unveils the Simplest Ads It’s Ever Made


Last summer, #TBWA Paris unveiled a bold campaign for #McDonald’s that consisted entirely of classic menu items photographed up close—with no branding at all. (Did somebody say McDonald’s? Not in those ads.)

Now, agency and client are back with a follow-up campaign that, in a way, is even more minimalist. Instead of the actual products, now we get clean, simple drawings of the products—turning them into actual icons. There is a bit more explicit branding on these, though, but it’s still very subtle—a tiny Golden Arches next to the illustrations.

World’s Biggest McDonald’s Outlet to Open in London

When the Olympic Games begin in London next month, the capital will play host to the fittest, fastest and strongest athletes in the world. But it will also be home to a rather different superlative – the biggest McDonald’s on the planet, right in the middle of the Olympic park. So while the competitors stretch themselves to their very limits, hungry spectators will gorge on tens of thousands of burgers and portions of fries.
