People Are Knitting Giant Sweaters For Rescued Elephants To Protect Them From Cold
Winters get chilly in Northern India, so volunteers at the the Wildlife SOS Elephant Conservation and Care Center decided to knit giant sweaters for its rescued elephants. It takes around 4 weeks to make one sweater, and it does not come as a surprise knowing that elephants are the largest land mammals on the planet. Photographer Continues To Dress Up Rescued Dogs To Draw Attention To Their Stories
The dapper dogs in clothes are back with a second series, and they’re feeling festive. Earlier this year we were introduced to UCAPS’ well dressed canines available for adoption. Photographer Tammy Swarek came up with the idea of dressing up rescue dogs to draw attention to their stories and help potential owners personally connect with them. Tammy, from Arkansas, drew her inspiration from Facebook after spotting another portrait project for sheltered animals. So she contacted her local dog shelter, the Union County Animal Protection Society (UCAPS) and has worked closely with shelter manager Tanja Jackson ever since. Continue reading »

After spending six years in a barn stall, Lazarus is finally getting a second chance.
Amanda Brooke Charsha-Lindsey with the Big Fluffy Dog Rescue shared an inspiring photo (above) of a recently rescued great pyrenees named Lazarus to her Facebook page on Sunday. Pumpkin the Raccoon may have an adorable face and a family who adores her, but things weren’t always easy for the lovable creature. When she was only a month old, Pumpkin fell out of a tree and broke her back leg. To make matters worse, the infant animal was incredibly weak and in need of medical attention. That’s when Rosie Kemp found her and waited around for the cub’s mother. The Panama-flagged MV Rak Carrier, a 220-meter (722-feet) long vessel transporting 60,000 tonnes of coal from Indonesia to India, sank off the coast of Mumbai after its 30-strong crew were rescued when it began taking on water in stormy seas. The MV Rak Carrier went down about 22 nautical miles from India’s financial and entertainment capital, just hours after it made an emergency distress call.
