In 2020, after spending months alone, Leipzig-based photographer invited his oldest friend along on a trip to the Alps where they would photograph contemporary architecture.

Throughout a just 20 days, 28 buildings located throughout Slovenia, Austria, Switzerland, and Germany had to be photographed. The endeavor required sleeping in abandoned chapels and ascending glaciers at night.

“We would aim to be on top of the mountain for golden hour, when the light is very beautiful,” he says. “Then we’d wait until pitch black at night, when the stars are visible.”

Voss, who is currently on the shortlist for a Sony World Photography Award, attempted to keep the technique as true to reality as possible, even if it frequently required mixing photos. People respond to you by saying that it seems like you are actually there.
