A crop circle resembling ‘the cube’ from hit action movie Transformers has appeared in a field in Wiltshire. Farmer James Hussey discovered the flattened crops – which some forums believe is a Rubik’s Cube type puzzle. (Barcroft)

Cartier at the 26th Biennale des Antiquaires Paris 2012
Since 1964, Cartier has figured among the most prestigious exhibitors of this elite gathering and reaffirms its allegiance to the Biennale des Antiquaires with each edition.
A cultural event of international renown, this Parisian showcase of decorative arts from around the world unfurls splendidly over seventeen days under the dome of the Grand Palais.
With its 250 m2 stand – the largest of all exhibitors at the 2012 edition – Cartier unveils the full extent of its jewelled supremacy at the Biennale. Entrusted to the talent of French designer Tristan Auer, known for his refined approach and bespoke decorative work, this spectacular setting is a fitting reflection of the scope, creative power and legitimacy of the king of jewellers. This year, Cartier will present 148 pieces of high jewellery and 12 precious objects plus a selection of pieces from the Cartier Tradition collection.

In Need of Help
Nicholas Poussin’s ‘Extreme Unction’ goes on show at the National Gallery in London. The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge has embarked on a public appeal to secure the £14m painting for public display. The first few weeks of fundraising has risen £550,000 but needs a total of £3.9m by early November. The masterpiece, which is claimed to be Poussin’s greatest piece of work, can be seen at the National Gallery from 20 September – 11 November. (Barcroft)

The head of the new Jesus statue “Lux Mundi” meaning “light of the world” is hoisted by a crane at Solid Rock Church in Monroe, Ohio. The statue is to replace another statue that was destroyed by lightning in 2010. (AP)

Texas-based artist Gabriel Dawe uses thread – the basis of clothing – to create architectural installations.
‘The Plexus series stems from an exploration between the overlap between fashion and architecture,’ Dawe says, adding that both disciplines work to protect the human body. ‘I’m changing the scale in which that material is normally used, producing a structure that no longer shelters the physical body; but that protective quality goes through an alchemical transformation resulting in an installation that shelters the viewer in a metaphorical way.’ Continue reading »

His name is Alexander Stupkin, a young Ukrainian jeweler from Odessa. Apparently he has always been a fan of beautiful sports cars, and since he was already working in a field that requires patience and accuracy, he decided to try his luck with tunning. Although he had no experience with tunning cars, with the help of family and friends, Alexander managed to transform an old 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse he bought in 2008 into a stunning replica of his Italian dream car, the Lamborghini Reventon. In the Russian village of Kamarchaga, in the Siberian taiga, Russian pensioner Olga Kostina has used 30,000 plastic bottle caps to adorn her home with colorful patterns and images – making it somewhat of a local landmark. Over many years, in the isolated rural town situated just in the perimeter of the taiga’s forest, Olga Kostina collected the lids and once she felt there was enough she created detailed murals across the walls of her home with images of traditional macrame motifs and various creatures living in the neighboring woodland. Vladimir Franz – Completely Tattooed Czech Presidential Candidate
Vladimir Franz, a university teacher, painter and composer, announced that he is planning to run for President in the Czech Republic’s 2013 elections, Prague Daily Monitor reports. Franz stands out from other candidates — he has tattoos that cover his entire face and body, as well as a variety of piercings and a dye that makes his hair blue. Before he can compete in the elections, Franz must collect 50,000 signatures. Betting sites are not giving him good odds at present, but he is placing higher than some candidates. Continue reading »
