David Glasheen: A Real Life Robinson Crusoe

David Glasheen, dubbed Australia’s Robinson Crusoe, has lived on tiny Restoration Island, off the north-eastern tip of Australia since 1993, accompanied only by his dog Quasi. A former business man, he abandoned a high-flying life in Sydney after losing $AUS10 million £6.5 million in the 1987 stock market crash and his marriage ended. Mr Glasheen, who is now in his late 60s, said he revels in the tranquillity and privacy and has called himself as “the luckiest bloke in the world”. He lives off fish and crab and collects bananas, coconuts and native fruit, as well as growing his own vegetables and brewing beer.

Terrier Meysi is the World’s Smallest Dog

Meet Meysi, a tiny Terrier crossbreed from Jarocin, Poland, who is is unwittingly vying for the title of World’s Smallest Living Dog. Meysi weighed just 1.58 ounces at her birth three months ago and her owner Anna Pohl wasn’t sure the cute puppy would survive. Continue reading »

Currently they have it parked in a friend’s backyard in north Austin, but will soon travel to Washington state to live. Steve Jobs’ Yacht ‘Venus’ Launched in Netherlands

Steve Jobs’s yacht was has been unveiled in a Dutch shipyard, where the unusual boat designed by Jobs and famed minimalist designer Philippe Starck was christened “Venus”, after the Roman goddess of love, beauty, sex, fertility, prosperity and victory.

According to Dutch website OneMoreThing, the finished ship was launched at shipbuilder Koninklijke De Vries in Aalsmeer in the Netherlands. Jobs’s widow Laurene and three of their children, Reed, Aaron and Eve, were at the ceremony. Continue reading »

Ostankino Tower Celebrating Victory Day

Ostankino Tower is a television and radio tower in Moscow, Russia. Standing 540.1 metres (1,772 ft) tall, Ostankino was designed by Nikolai Nikitin. It is currently the tallest freestanding structure in Europe and sixth tallest in the world. The tower was the first free-standing structure to exceed 500 m (1,600 ft) in height. Ostankino was built to mark the 50th anniversary of the October Revolution. It is named after the Ostankino district of Moscow in which it is located. Continue reading »

Darth Vader In Disneyland

A little less than two years ago when Disneyland was promoting the new Star Tours attraction, they came out with this very funny video of Darth Vader on vacation at Disneyland. With the big news that dropped on Tuesday, that video has been updated and turned into a cute commercial that fits in with the famous “What Are You Going to Do Next” commercial series.

Since Disney purchased Lucasfilm for $4 billion, Darth Vader went to the happiest place on earth to enjoy the sights and rides at Disneyland, ranging from frolicking in the Dumbo ride to spinning in a tea cup. Continue reading »

Moonfest: West Palm Beach Lures the Undead out for a Night of Revelry

Darkness fell on Clematis Street, fertile ground this Saturday night for the young and undead. The City that Builts into the Rock

Setenil de las Bodegas is a small town in the province of Cádiz, Spain. Named after its once flourishing wineries – bodegas – Setenil de las Bodegas (which means Setenil of the Wine Cellars) is unique among the pueblos blancos, white villages, of Andalucia and particularly famous for its dwellings built into the rock overhangs. The town extends along the course of the Rio Trejo with some houses being built into the rock walls of the gorge itself, created by enlarging natural caves or overhangs and adding an external wall. Great Dismal Swamp

The Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge is located in southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. The refuge consists of over 112,000 acres of forested wetlands. Lake Drummond, at 3,100 acres and the largest natural lake in Virginia, is located in the heart of the swamp. On the territory of teh National State Reserve you can see trees like bald cypress, pine, maple, and many others, and animals like black bear, lynx, otter and weasel. Continue reading »
