World’s Biggest McDonald’s Outlet to Open in London

When the Olympic Games begin in London next month, the capital will play host to the fittest, fastest and strongest athletes in the world. But it will also be home to a rather different superlative – the biggest McDonald’s on the planet, right in the middle of the Olympic park. So while the competitors stretch themselves to their very limits, hungry spectators will gorge on tens of thousands of burgers and portions of fries.

Fantastic Infrared Photography by Oleg Stelmakh

In infrared photography, the film or image sensor used is sensitive to infrared light. The part of the spectrum used is referred to as near-infrared to distinguish it from far-infrared, which is the domain of thermal imaging. Wavelengths used for photography range from about 700 nm to about 900 nm. Film is usually sensitive to visible light too, so an infrared-passing filter is used; this lets infrared (IR) light pass through to the camera, but blocks all or most of the visible light spectrum (the filter thus looks black or deep red).

The Urban Greenhouse

Designed by art students Audrey Charré, Clémentine Schmidt and Luc Beaussart, the ‘Urban Greenhouse’ wants to show and give value to the plants which grow by themselves in a city. Those discredit plants are, in fact, healthy, médicinal and sometimes eatable. The first part of the project was to give value by a three-dimensional graphic intervention. The other part of the project was to use those plants like a kind of material to make leaf mould. The organic waste become a strong productive material. The relevance of this project is to see what is already here in the city, to find a purpose to create a cycle from the city. Continue reading »

Greta Oto – The Glasswinged Butterfly

The Glasswinged butterfly (Greta oto) is a brush-footed butterfly, and is a member of the subfamily Danainae, tribe Ithomiini, subtribe Godyridina.

The wings are translucent, with a wingspan of 5.6 to 6.1 cm (2.2 to 2.4 in). Its most common English name is glasswinged butterfly, and its Spanish name is “espejitos”, which means “little mirrors”. Indeed, the tissue between the veins of its wings looks like glass, as it lacks the colored scales found in other butterflies. The opaque borders of its wings are dark brown sometimes tinted with red or orange, and its body is dark in color.

Adults range from Mexico through Panama. The Greta oto may also be found in Venezuela, as there are photographs taken in the mountain area around Caracas.

Photographer Chuck Courson captured the worried-looking critter dangling 30ft in the air as it tried to evade a red-tailed hawk. But he didn’t get a dramatic series of escape shots as the raccoon was frozen to the spot and barely moved a whisker. (Mirror Online) Click image to zoom.
