If you love the look of plants on your desk, but have a nasty habit of killing them through neglect, consider this faux greenery as an alternative. What look like tall blades of grass are actually unfortunately-named Pooleaf pens with long wisps of silicone coming off the end.

Sea Creatures Come out for Coney Island’s Mermaid Parade

Coney Island was hard hit by Superstorm Sandy but parade organizers, whose offices were flooded, were able to raise $100,000 on Kickstarter to fund the parade. The Mermaid Parade began in 1983 and features participants dressed as mermaids and other sea creatures while paying homage to the former tradition of the Coney Island Mardi Gras, which ran annually in the early fall from 1903-1954. Spearfishing is a type of hunting done with underwater guns, harpoons and strong line. Freediving is a type of breath-hold diving in which divers descend for the duration of one breath, without any SCUBA tanks or any breathing apparatus. The best freedivers can hold their breath for over five minutes and go deeper than 100 feet. The combination of both these skills makes a high adrenaline sport done by only a few brave souls…

Ice Bubbles Create Picturesque Scene at the Foot of the Rocky Mountains
Located at the foot of the Rocky Mountains on the North Saskatchewan River, the rare phenomenon occurs each winter in the man-made lake. The simple but stunning nature of the bubbles was captured on camera by a 40-year-old American photographer, Chip Phillips, who walked onto the lake for a better view of the scene. Ice bubbles occur during the months of November and March when the plants on the lake bed release methane gas, which freezes as it comes closer to the cold surface of the lake. Painted Mil Mi-24 Hind
The pictures are not of an American helicopter, but of a Russian MI-24 “Hind” assault helicopter. It was used extensively by the Soviets in Afghanistan but this paint-job does not appear to be for combat. We suspect it is for purposes of promotion or public performance. There are some pictures of it on display at an air show at Szentkirályszabadja, Hungary.
