Faith Ringgold was born Faith Willi Jones in 1930 in the Harlem neighborhood of Manhattan. Her mother, a fashion designer and seamstress, encouraged Faith’s creative pursuits from a young age. Ringgold earned a bachelor’s degree from City College of the City University of New York in 1955. “Hong Kong On Fire”: Local Photographer Captured Stunning Images Of The Days In Fight For Civil Rights
The 2019 Hong Kong protests are an ongoing series of demonstrations in Hong Kong and solidarity protests in other cities abroad which began with the aim of withdrawing an extradition bill proposed by the Hong Kong government. If enacted, the bill would allow local authorities to detain and extradite people who are wanted in territories that Hong Kong does not have extradition agreements with, including mainland China and Taiwan. Concerns were raised that the bill would place Hong Kong citizens and visitors under mainland Chinese jurisdiction, undermining the autonomy of the region and people’s rights and freedom. Animal Rights Activists Intercept Truck Carrying 350 Cats
A truck load of around 350 cats destined to be taken to a meat processing factory has been intercepted by animal rights activists in the Putuo district of Shanghai on Wednesday. The cats were mostly strays from around Shanghai city but also included stolen pet cats with some of the animals still wearing collars and tags around their necks. The vehicle was reportedly headed to Guangzhou in South China to a ‘fake meat’ factory where the cat meat would have been treated and sold as pork/lamb. However, before it was able to leave activists stopped the truck and rang the police. The driver was detained on the grounds he had no livestock license for transportation.
