How to Look at Art Through Apps – ReadWriteWeb

“Images were first made to conjure up the appearance of something that was absent,” writes John Berger in his seminal publication Ways of Seeing. “Gradually it became evident that an image could outlast what it represented.”

Project Paperclip 1 How to Look at Art Through Apps ReadWriteWeb

Project Paperclip proposes a way to augment reality. It takes a highly replicable Internet photograph of nature, combining it with a QR code and sound emitted from an iPhone app. It is subtly disconcerting, an ominous prediction of the artificial realities we build with the help of smartphone apps and the Internet.

In this video, we wanted to try to get into the heads of some of our favorite curators to understand what makes them tick.

Featured curators include:

Women are like the laws of physics.

From an old text I wrote, still find it accurate. Since it’s women’s day and all.
It’s also my photo, so no copyright infringement there. Happy women’s day. :)

Project Paperclip, the first photography exhibition with augmented reality.

Project Paperclip is the first photographic exhibition to use Augmented Reality. The concept of Augmented Reality, utilizes a digital interface to permit the creation of a bridge between our universe and the digital universe, creating a mixed ambience in real time where the differentiation between these two realities is reduced. In this exhibition, this is brought about by using an iPhone, headsets and an application that is available on the Apple app store.

To make full use of this exhibition, visitors that have an iPhone 3 or above need to download Project Paperclip application, at the AppStore. Equipped with a headphones (the better the quality, the more immersive the simulation will be), switch on the App and follow instructions to activate the soundscapes.

The experience is unique each time it is activated as the algorithm utilizes real variables for its processing, such as: the time of day, the level of noise that exists in the room, your voice, the movement and localization of the user, amongst many others.

You can find more information and test the concept at: www.discloseprojectpaperclip.com
